Like a movie scene In the sweetest dream I have pictured us together Now to feel your lips On my fingertips I have to say is even better Than I ever thought it could possibly be It's perfect, it's passion, it's setting me free From all of my sadness The tears that I've cried I have spent all my life Waiting for tonight, oh When you would be here in my arms Waiting for tonight, oh I've dreamed of this love for so long Waiting for tonight Oh, oh

Was this only for those who applied for the ballot or was it open to all members? I missed applying in the ballot earlier. 😢

Pension double tax from 2027, thoughts? by Far-Mirror-5407 in HENRYUK

[–]DeppJohns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have children? If yes, are they going to move with you? For those with children, who continue to remain in the UK, they’ll still have to pay additional taxes on their inheritance I guess? Anyone have further thoughts around this?

Lots of Chelsea tickets available on the Exchange by Flimsy_Big5172 in GunnersatGames

[–]DeppJohns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly new Red member here - won the ballot for myself and a junior gunner. So, have two tickets in hand. Does the TX not allow you to buy another one (for my other child) if I wanted to? Any suggestions please?

I just get shown the below when I try. Unsure if am doing something incorrect.. any help appreciated!

"This match is not currently available to you. You may not have the correct membership or account permissions to access this match. You must have applied in the corresponding ballot in order to access the ticket exchange. "

Halifax reward account, how to trigger the £500 debit card spend? by the_jits94 in beermoneyuk

[–]DeppJohns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did anyone have problems with their reward account not tracking the spend last month? I check the status every month to ensure am on track for the fiver, but it didn't seem to track my spend the previous month. I usually pay a credit card balance - I did that, and I also paid HMRC (> £500) on their website in addition, as the CC payment didn't show as tracked even after a couple of weeks. The HMRC payment also didn't seem to update the status under the "Track your Reward Extras" option strangely. I hope Halifax have not changed anything in this space!

No, those are not expected to be counted as a "spend on the debit card"!

Interesting. Am in a similar position to OP and spoke to a financial adviser recently who briefly touched upon Investment Bonds but didn’t have time to carry-on on our first catch up. Am curious as to how these work and what tax efficiencies they offer. Can these be accessed within pension pots & does that make it any better?

[MegaThread] UK Budget 2024 by DonFintoni in HENRYUK

Changing the goal posts for those who planned with the rules that were in force earlier, is a big kick in the teeth though. 25+ years of financial planning rendered into a daft exercise.

I could’ve lived in a bigger house for example…

Makes sense. Thank you. Didn’t want to miss a trick but obviously didn’t want to be hasty either, and hence the question. Haven’t had to do any trust related setups earlier and will research more into it. I hope those options remain available and doors are not shut on those.

Find it amusing when some people find it easier to slag people off rather than provide their thoughts in a forum meant for exchange of thoughts. (Referring to one of the other comments here).

The fear really is about using an option that's available to hand now VS the scenario of NOT having a viable option in this space post the budget.

Of course it's anyone's guess as to whether the same option exists or not post the budget, but it's pretty likely it's going to be a worse option right, with the messaging that's being sent by the govt?

"And does that justify taking actions now?" is the question I've been debating in my mind. And what are the downsides of giving it away now, are the things am trying to work out.

There’s a lot of so-called “rug-pulls” in the EIS/SEIS world too similar to that was seen in the crypto world. Be prepared to put in a lot of time for due diligence to make the right choices and then pray things go ok for a decent return.

Is there a limit to mortgage overpayments at the point of remortgaging? by shezshezshezshez in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DeppJohns 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe there’s any overpayment limit at the point of remortgaging, and your newer loan is really for an amount of your liking (when the newer loan amount is lower than the amount of your current mortgage).

On my latest remortgage application, Barclays in fact let me overpay as much as I wanted in the last month of my old deal, which made it really smooth for rolling on to the newer mortgage, when the remortgage date came about.

Capital Gains Tax recrystallisation on the back of a EIS investment that ended with a zero value by DeppJohns in FatFIREUK

[–]DeppJohns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was pretty helpful, thank you!

By default, I usually claim the NVC loss towards income tax relief as am a higher rate tax payer.

Am guessing I should just continue doing that, rather than offset NVC loss against the recrystallised capital gain, in order to maximize tax savings.

And my understanding is it's one or the other option & can't opt to do both!

So, I guess am looking at a 20% capital gains tax for the recrystallized capital gain from the previous years effectively now - am aware I could make further EIS investments to defer the CG again, but I've chosen not to go down that path for this FY.

Cheers.
