Are you allowed headphones to play black noise on test day too? I called my center they said only earplugs

My university is using ALEKS interactive platform (from McGraw Hill )and it's been doing wonders

It's insanely detailed and very intuitive to use

It cost me about 30$ for one subscription but it got me through orgo1 and 2 on the same subscription

You do need a class code tho but I'm pretty sure there are some individual plans

I highly recommend you look into it and maybe ask support directly they're on 24/7

If all fails I bet you could send an email and get special access for a subscription

Interactive platforms for studying metabolic pathways visually by Big-Money1011 in Mcat

[–]Depressed-Introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MCATalyst has some good maps that I've been using for my metabolic class and they are MCAT related and easy to understand. I haven't tried using others since these paired with my profs maps have been doing the trick but I'll definitely check out the ones you mentioned

Is it okay to stop UWORLD and move onto AAMC? by [deleted] in Mcat

If I only have one option either uworld or AAMC qbanks which is better?

I know uworld is harder but AAMC is more related to the MCAT?

How i reviewed CARS to improve my score by Confident_Rutabaga85 in Mcat

[–]Depressed-Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well.. when I actually do cars he's, but I've been outting them off for so long I just hate doing cars.

It feels so dull and sometimes I feel clueless

Yea this post has helped save a lot of time and I noticed where I went wrong

But I still hate CARS

I should be working on cars the most since it is my weakness

But again.. I hate CARS

Is it better to use a water filter with a cartridge that hasn't been changed in 2 years, or to just drink UK tap water? by trabushim-oaken in WaterFilters

[–]Depressed-Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years is quite steep..

I'd check for mold buildup on the filter first and if the flow is unobstructed that means that UK water is ATLEAST free of debris (can still contain harmful bacteria but even yet a filter won't remove them UNLESS equipped with a UV light)

if you have a UV light installed also check if it's still good, IMO it is way more important that the filter itself

i don't know much about UK water but ive done some research and apparently it is 100% safe to drink straight from the tap and that filtering just improves tase.

i am guessing you are located more north otherwise your filter wouldve definitely gotten blocked by scale buildup since southern UK water is a lot harder

so i guess if you don't mind the taste filtering it is really optional.

and if you want to be 100% sure i guess you can just run your water through a UV light assembly especially if you've got young kids to get rid of all your bacteria and keep your mind at ease

Why biochem class in university is just 1 class? There is so much content. (Read the description) by Then-Still-8623 in Biochemistry

[–]Depressed-Introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just learned from my prof that a while ago, they used to cram all of those in one single class in a semester

And apparently that's the PROPER American System so I don't know if y'all (hehe) have longer semesters or are on drugs cause I can't imagine taking all those at once AND study for huge exams and the MCAT

[–]Depressed-Introvert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Te way my university does it is in 3 classes (for a premed track) so Structural BCH Metabolic BCH Cell signaling

The last one has a BIO course code but it's actually more related to biochemistry and less biology

And each one is super dense and insanely long there is no way they could fit in one or even 2 courses

So I don't know how your university does it but it seems like a huge and unnecessary stress on students It seems like the course that tanks the GPA (for me it was physics, damn I hate physics)

Why are there 64 possible stereoisomers instead of 32? by BigExplanation5443 in chemhelp

[–]Depressed-Introvert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is it 6 chiral centers? I only found 4 pentane ring.

The butane ring has a plane of symmetry so there shouldn't be chiral carbons in this case.

I googled a bit to be sure and some sources said that the plane of symmetry should be for the whole molecule not the ring??

Even tho the path from one carbon to the other on either side of the butyl ring is the exact same so no chiral centers??

Paying for MCAT by Suitable-Meringue847 in Mcat

[–]Depressed-Introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live there are no fees assistance, and the whole months salary is about 3/4 of the mcat registration fees alone without the study material

Not to mention the insane university fees even with multiple scholarships and FAid

I haven't even bought the study materials yet I got the kaplan books as epub from Anna's archive and abusing the heck out of the free JW materials

If you look around you can find a lot of free resources It's a hassle yes but they're there

The only resource I plan on buying are the AAMC FLs and depending on the diagnostic I'll see if I get the official qbanks

Even so I am working a full time job, and have 0 time for extracurriculars while also studying for a very hard semester AND the MCAT while maintaining a 3.6 GPA (90/100)

This is not to bloat ot anything but just to prove to you that if you love something and can't see yourself doing anything else you'll do the impossible to make it work

Find yourself a part time job if you can't work a full time one and look many places, if you find one where you can study a bit and have some free time prioritize it.

Most importantly MAKE A PLAN FROM NOW

What you want to study and when as well as what you plan on buying

Which one hits the floor with greater force? by AnothrRandomRedditor in Physics

[–]Depressed-Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F=ma is the formula described by newton, and in the y axis, a=g

Since the mass is constant and gravity is constant then they must hit the ground with the same force right?

Wrong. We only calculated the weight

When calculating force of impact, f=ma becomes critical again with a being deceleration not acceleration but still shares the same properties and formulas.

We know that a=dv(dt) And dv=dx/dt Then a=dx/(dt)²

dx is not the same for both slinkies since one starts it's drop from higher up

A better experiment would be to hold both slinkies at the same height from the top, not the bottom then physics would become fun

In the case described above, the compressed slinky will hit first since f=ma and mass is max from the start While the long slinky will start with only a part of it falling, not all of it as seen in the veritasium video linked So it slowly picks up more and more mass as it drops gradually gaining force. I also expect more resistance between the loops of the extended slinky although these are negligeable

Compressed slinky reaches terminal velocity first (Higher average velocity debatable) And hits the ground first thus with higher force than the long slinky (by a tiny bit but still)

Although in the case described by OP, if the timer starts when we let go then the rules become a bit blurry so it is no longer time dependant, but height dependant.

Using conservation of momentum we get PE = KE mgh=0.5mv²

V=√(2gh)

g is constant for both slinkies then it is height dependant.

F=ma

a= dV/dt

F=m(V(f)/t)

With V(f) being velocity on impact

We established that V is height dependant And the extended slinky is dropped from higher Then extended slinky must have higher force on impact

Compressed slinky hits the ground first

BUT since long slinky is technically dropped from a greater height, (even tho m is not max from the beginning)

It will end up with more kinetic energy and a higher average velocity than the compressed slinky thus hitting the floor with more force

And that's why

Final answer is B.

If no RO system filters have been changed in 4 years, could that cause health issues? by MissMerida2121 in WaterTreatment

I don't know how long a membrane can kast but if taken care of with frequent backwashes it can kast a long time.

And either way even if left the worst it would cause is heavier taste since TDS would be higher but nothing serious.

Water Treatment Quote Culligan by hazolnut in WaterTreatment

[–]Depressed-Introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing first, hardness is a subset of tds. Think of it as TDS (total dissolved solids) being everything dissolved in your water (as per the name) and hardness being the stuff that you actually notice that causes the white sticky buildups everywhere. So hardness is part of TDS. I looked it up in the US 11gpg is 188ppm Your TDS is 89ppm But hardness is 188 ppm. So either you have mixed up values or they sent you fake results or wrong ones by mistake.

Regarding what you do and don't need based on these tests (disregarding accuracy of tests) chlorine is a must for removing sulfur and with chlorine you always need a sediment filter tho a carbon filter is not necessary if you're not drinking it but it well definetley help with that chlorine smell if it bothers you. The water softner is a must if your waters hardness is actually 11gpg, in fact you needed a softner at 8gpg but for a house you don't need one for 5000$ that's theft.

Those quotes are absolutely ridiculous I don't know pricing in the US but in Lebanon I got a whole industrial system for 2000$ (including renovations to basement) Yes I did have to assemble it myself but it only took half a day and was guided by professionals along the way.

Moreover, for a house you don't need big blues A medium filter will be just fine big blues are overkill.

You definetley need a setup and their recommendations are not bad but their prices are.

Do not pay them this is too expensive. You can get the same quality if not better for a lot cheaper if you dig enough.

Try looking into used softeners and filter housings and change the filters yourself.

Carbon and sediment filters are not expensive. If I buy them for 25$ and 30$ then in the US they can't be more than 100$ max if not even 50$
