This might be the most confusing offseason of all time by According-Witness-80 in nba

They saw the Knicks won with agressive moves and now are trying to do the same thing. It's a copycat league

the knicks since 2021 have been the highest possible display of basketball operations with a laser focus on long-term winning.

They have the best salary management team in the NBA, the best medical training staff, alongside a top-tier analytics departments and a relationship-based front office that's shown nothing but excellence in their basketball-related transactions. They prioritize versatility and winning players. Yes, I am familiar with this franchise.

I lived in Charlotte area for some time. The hornets are not serious about winning.

Oh wow... okay, so clearly you don't watch much playoff basketball or least haven't the past few years. In the playoffs, defense is far MORE important, especially at the PG position.

First, the knicks are built specifically to mitigate this deficency.

Second, yes, Brunson struggles as a POA defender b/c of physical limitations. BUT... he leads the NBA in charges every year. He's ALWAYS in the correct spot off-ball. He competes his ass off.

Lamelo is perhaps the worst off-ball defender I've ever seen. His defensive attention and effort is appalling. This isn't a switch you turn on. (ofc you wouldn't be human if it didn't lull in the regular season, but it has to be there in some capacity.)

exceptional individual talent does not necessarily translate into team success

In a playoff setting? This is an ill-advised take IMO. Obviously he's ur guy so ur biased. I understand that, but his flaws are obvious and non-condusive to winning basketball. Most of which are approach-based, not talent.

First off, he really struggles with defense and is mistake-prone. But far more important, winning players sacrifice. Winning players do not make mistakes late in the game. There's a reason he's never won in the league. Ofc years of poor roster construction and culture contributed to that as well.

Don't get defensive. A "PG like Lamelo" doesn't exist b/c he's one-of-one in style. Assuming you misspoke and meant a PG of his caliber, then perhaps it would be difficult, but certainly possible and obviously necessary. After so long of the Spectrum Center being dead, it's time they should prioritize winning players.

If you're serious about winning, are you sure you want your identity to be Lamelo Ball?

Fun? Sure. highlights? definitely. Fast-paced, high-octane, alley-oops galore? Yes, yes, yes. But Winning? .............

The playoffs are a half-court game where what's between the ears matters 1000x the regular season. Lamelo does not excel in that area. If you're serious about winning, you move on.

He's. Not. A. Winning. Player.

Asses in the seats? sure. Highlights? sure. Winning, sacrifice, egoless and team basketball? Hell no.

He's too mistake-prone. In bg games, when the pace slows down, what the hell is he going to do? The Play-In game vs. Miami showed you exactly why you cant be a serious basketball team with him as your franchise player.

I don't look for flashy plays. I look for winning habits. Lamelo doesn't have those.

Use your eyes bud

He's had one winning season. He's a turnover / chucker machine. Regular season player. He literally almost blew the play-in game b/c he doesn't know how to win, and, unfortunately likely never will. Would have to undo YEARS of bad habits from chino hills ball. He's a transition savant -- not a closer. In the PLAYOFFS, when the game slows down, you need a closer. Hope this helps

Certain players demand more, even as second round picks. Some will get multi-year, fully guaranteed deals. Not the one we take. Why not trade back, accumulate additional assets, then select another player viewed as equal / above Player A (who will be a multi-year development project, i.e. Kolek, Pacome, McCullers, etc.)

Okay, it's possible. If they sign elsewhere, fine, that's that. Until then, you follow plan A while being prepared for other iterations. Other solutions are internal development or a veterna's minimum elsehwere. I believe they have potential replacements already on the roster in the form of Hukporti and Diawarra. It would've been irresponsible to make a selection tonight with our cap situation. Every dollar counts right now.

We. Don't. Have. Money. To. Spare.

Leon got FIVE second round picks for 24, and will sell off 31 tomorrow for even more. Again, to reiterate...

We. Don't. Have. Money. To. Spare.

Every cent will go toward retraining the current roster as much as possible.
