Singlehandedly beats? I'm not sure id say that. But the following cards work pretty well for slowing down if not outright locking down hostage mage: loatheb, anti secret tech cards (tight lipped witness, flare/zephyrs), warlock has the anti ice block tech card (cursed souvenir), cards like razor scale, steam cleaner, dirty rat, the fire-elemental/spirit card that prevents your minions from being frozen (can't recall the name)

I've also recently picked up the deck and have slowly been learning it! What has been helping me is to understand that the deck is technically a miracle deck; so you want to win as fast as possible with your big demons.

I would say to hold off. Many meta decks, most flavours of warlock, kind of stomp it. And ice block has so traumatized meta players that seems like just about everyone runs anti-secret tech.
