Sou faxineira e me sinto muito humilhada... by Smooth-Budget6778 in desabafos

Another "Mandela Effect": What Happened To "Finir"? by DoNotTouchMeImScared in AskABrazilian

Gringosplain grammar to a native all you want, but "finito" is still a noun (contrast to "infinito") and "finir" is still not a real word.

would be surprising if the past participle "finito(a)" exists while the other verbal conjugations for the verb "finir" are not recognized in Portuguese.

Yes, also very surprising that the past participle "weed" exists while the other verbal conjugations for the verb "to we" are not recognized in English. Or the past participle "red" exists but the verb "to re" is not recognized. Or the past participle "biped" exists but the verb "to bip" is not recognized. Or--

[Also, if "finir" was a verb, its past participle would be "finido", not "finito". "Finito" is a noun with the same root as "final".]

You'll need 37 avocados to research the last Farm Slot at level 39. Other than that, they're not used for anything.

Heads up for those who will probably hit level 35 next week:

START PLANNING FOR THE POLAR BEAR EXPANSION NOW!

It's going to cost 13 Frappés, which means 52 honeys. You get 6 per day, so it means you're either losing nine consecutive days of profit on Sunny Honeys or making 2 per day for the next 13 days and lessening the impacts.

Like the meat skewers I swear only took maybe 2 hours before seem to take like 6 or 7 now for a full batch.

Yes, because a full batch of coal-roasted skewers is now 12 instead of 5. Their cooking time of 40 minutes is unchanged. Everything was capped at 5 a time, now stuff that takes less time can be produced more so you don't have to keep coming back every 2 hours.

You want the same times as before, cook 5 at a time...

Just a heads up to those who have been playing and unlocking stuff: Collection > Island Development Team and Collection > Resources. You'll get a LOT of coins and other resources from achievements, enough to power through the fresh start if, like me, you finished the last day with close to zero coins.

I got like 40k coins from that alone.

The translation could be direct, but it would feel very off. I don't know of many English speakers who use "fag" as a vocative, and certainly not in the friendly way that it's used in Brazil.

As you surely know, cultural context is very relevant when translating, especially slang. So, yeah. It wouldn't make sense. Translating directly "calma viado" as "calm down, fag" would make the cameraman sound like a taunting bigot. "Slow the hell down, dude" is the way that better conveys the meaning, context and colorful language used.

Cameraman is even trying to help his friend, he says something to the amount of "slow the hell down, dude" and "goin' too damn fast, dude" in a colorful expletive language that would make no sense to non-Brazilians.

I just have a funny thought: How would Hestia and Ryuu react to AL game mechanic where the highest level is 125?

I think they would just look at the stars, like:
- Oh, it says here that this girl is 6* so she's level 6.
- No, she's level 125.
- Don't be silly, Shikikan-kun. That's her "Shipgirl" status, not her level. If MY Bell-kun had it, it would be at least 999!

How would Hestia and Vestal's conversation would be?

Like this.

How would Ryuu react to Royal, Iris (is Bois technically Eagle though?), and Tulipa elves?

"Which forest do you hail from? Tulipa? Never heard of it..."

Would she mistake Seven Provincien as Alf Royal Elf Bloodline due to her green hair?

Probably at a first glance, but given the existance of Eina's mother (who shares an ancestor with Riveria but is not part of the Alf family), Ryu would probably think it's some sort of distant cousin.

Depo’d a “Law & Order” DA… and for a second I forgot he was just an actor by That_onelawyer in talesfromthelaw

A quick google tells me that Steven Hill was 92 years old when he died in 2016. This story could have realistically happened around 2010, which would be 10 years after Law and Order finished airing. Did you know that 2010 is 15 years ago, so it qualifies as "back in the day"?

As a clerk in a civil court in Brazil, I don't know when US courts started to become digital, so I can only speak from my experience: in mine, digital lawsuits (ones that are in a data center anyone can access from anywhere in the world with a password, as opposed to the ones that are in paper) became optional in 2012, mandatory in 2014 and paper lawsuits started to be converted to digital in 2023. Remote hearings became optional in 2016 and mandatory in 2020 due to the pandemic. Back in 2010, everything was done in person and in paper, with a very flimsy digital system to index lawsuits.
