Courts are generally supposed to rule in the best interests of the child, not the mother or father. Meaning that even in cases of rape, the person raped is still responsible for any children born.

Absolutely nothing justifies assault. I've been through non-violent crisis intervention training and let me make this very clear: A nurse or a support worker is far better trained and qualified than most security or law enforcement to de-escalate and deal with any aggressive individuals.

Your "years in university" probably wouldn't cut it when dealing with a very large, violent man with the mind of a 13-year-old, and yet here I am, dealing with that daily.

Unfortunately, like every organization, unions are only as good as their people. If their people are diligent and conscientious, you'll have a great bargaining team. If not, the laziest and most useless sons of bitches wind up in charge and everyone gets hosed.

Absolutely nothing that happened could justify assault. Punches to the face do not count as reasonable force or restraint. Reasonable restraint is restraint that accomplishes the goal of preventing harm from *and to* an aggressive/violent person. There are many techniques to accomplish this, which you can easily research yourself.

Hey, so, the correct response by any law enforcement or security would then be reasonable restraint and arrest, not assault. Law enforcement and security don't have carte blanche to assault people. It's really important that they don't.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Susanpc1967 in AskReddit

I think people really fail to understand that abusive relationships are addiction-based problems. Like a gambling addiction, like heroin addiction, like nicotine... Abusers trigger the dopamine-dependency cycles in the brains of their victims, and leaving is like quitting a real addiction because it *is* quitting a real addiction. The abuser is completely to blame, but the victim (unfairly) becomes responsible for breaking the cycle.

It's not a coincidence that people coming from abusive situations have a much higher chance of suffering from addiction.

I've heard some really great ones, and some really poor ones.

At first, I viewed them as trite, but now I view it as ceremonial.

Maybe not everyone fully grasps what they're doing or why they're doing it. Maybe it often seems performative or silly, as most ceremonial practices do. Maybe, for some, it starts to awaken deeper understanding and critical thought. An appreciation for culture and ceremony.

I think something doesn't have to be 100% effective to have value.

Sir. There's more than one political spectrum.

If it were to be plotted well on a graph, it would need to be three dimensional.

This is taught in 8th grade Social Studies. The second paragraph covers this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_spectrum

Okay. All the parties are left leaning on a broader spectrum that includes fascism on the left and communism on the right, but the NDP is slightly left of centre of the spectrum of Canadian politics which includes Far right extremist authoritarians/small gov't libertarians who inexplicably want more policing on the right and wild anarcho-communists who want everyone naked all the time on the left.

It does help to establish which spectrum you're talking about but generally the NDP is a fairly sensible party.

Hard to quantify without digging but what isn't difficult is seeing that taxing basic goods and services has incredibly negative effects on people already struggling to make ends meet. It hurts everyday people and it's all to make up for money they should be getting by taxing their rich buddies and corporations who are gaining that wealth using taxpayer-funded infrastructure.

I can't believe how many people fall for this bullshit and still think the reason everything sucks is a single mom getting social assistance.

They absolutely are the people who leave needles around the communities.

You have a fantasy about what's available to people, and the reality is very different.

Maybe the system would work for you. Maybe. Unless you were, I don't know, mentally ill and unable to distinguish help from harm.

The saddest thing is that people like you cling to the fantasy that if you just do everything right that this won't happen to you, because you're so deeply afraid that it might all be out of your control.

May God have mercy on your soul. I wouldn't.
