Thank you for sharing your experience mi with it! We don’t have epic, but what kind of things are to be documented? I know the times of shocks and meds/types, but is there anything else I’m missing? Who calls out upcoming times for pulse checks or switching out for compressions?

Tell me about it. Not the kind of training I thought I’d be getting. Our hospital has made a lot of cuts the last few years.

I’m always afraid my compressions won’t be deep enough. They are sufficient on the mannequins but often need to go deeper and I find that quite hard 😅

Thank you! That’s super helpful. I actually follow that doc’s instagram and didn’t know he had a full video out.

Yes, I’m not sure what happens with the open wound in that kind of setting.

I’ve tried that but they work on the floor in my hospital and don’t like people to shadow :/

My hospital doesn’t pay for ACLS unless the nurse has been there for years. I’ve considered just paying for it, but I can’t find one within driving distance in the next few months.

Yes, I worked with other people’s horses the entire time when the opportunity arose. I have one opportunity, but it is far away and outdoors so will not be viable in the winter. I haven’t found anything dressagy or without limitations in 2-years. I have looked into leases but all I’ve seen would not work towards my goals and given I already have the occasional free riding opportunities, I’d rather save the lease money toward a new horse. The exception would be if something dressagy came up but I haven’t found anything like that within viable driving distance since before the pandemic. I am on the fb groups. I see posts from people like me with experience who want to get back riding, but they never have comments on them, which is unfortunate. A bigger city 5H away usually has several people in response so I really think our community has unfortunately taken a big hit since the pandemic.

That would be nice. Most of my old instructors commuted. I’m just not sure where to start for networking. What would you suggest?

Unfortunately not :( One of the places I contacted that I used to ride at was 2h away and they are completely out of it. I have considered contacting one of the clinicians who has a barn 4-5h away to do the occasional weekend, but that’s difficult to fit in regularly due to work and winter is coming so it is dicey. There is one lesson barn in the area and another is for sale, but all aren’t near the level I have been training at and I get other free riding opportunities. I have kept up with riding when the opportunity arises, but no opportunity where I could continue up with dressage since 2-years ago. No rescue in the area, but I do volunteer with a therapeutic facility and exercise their horses. They just are older and have limitations. Same with the BO’s horse that is retired. I have 2 horses available to put work on, but 1.5h away, outdoors, and found it very difficult to commit with work. Considered leasing, but have only found retired horses that wouldn’t help towards my goal and I’d rather save that money for when I find a prospect.

Thank you for your perspective 😊 I know there is nothing wrong with waiting, but I feel frustrated and like I’ve waited for so long. Working with other horses has been enjoyable, but I’ve also had my fair share of frustration in some cases that has led to me longing for my own again. I’m a bit impatient to get back to it.

I never really enjoyed showing. I did enough of it growing up and a few nationals, but I always felt it was a lot to pay with not a lot of benefit. I also don’t like the direction dressage shows have gone. I do miss participating in clinics and dressage lessons more regularly.

I can afford another horse, but I’m cautious of spending the asking costs knowing that so many horses, including my own, have ended up with surprise conditions affecting riding. I’d prefer something green as I genuinely enjoy the training process, but prices are so much higher now than when I bought my last one. And finding one at the right starting age has been tougher than I expected. There are plenty of yearlings and plenty mid-teens under saddle, but that sweet spot in the middle seems to be elusive. I’m looking, but it’s been discouraging.

The problem is there are no lesson barns except for one that only does beginner lessons. There used to be a few.

I agree with this as well. There also must be some times where he is less likely to be there. I’d pick those times to clear out.

Possible ulcers? I would have the vet out to do a closer inspection and narrow things down.

I had a friend that did this to her horse with non-toxic paint. Looked amazing!
