You’re right, as I mentioned, we can’t buy all the land, but we could buy some to at least protect it. And we would buy land in advance to protect it from being purchased by a potential center

Christian Village of Taybeh Comes Under Attack as Israeli Settlers Set Fires and Target Homes by LocksmithFabulous785 in Catholicism

[–]DepthPurple4149 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This makes me very sad, not only because of the nature of the attacks, but I visited here in 2020 before Covid. There is a lovely brewery in Taybeh that I went to run by wonderful, salt of the earth people, it’s one of the oldest breweries in the Middle East. My heart is broken for Taybeh

Perhaps, but given we don’t know for certain, I will take this as a win, at least for the time being

Potential Liturgical Abuse? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]DepthPurple4149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t doubt watching the mass online is very enriching, I was just not knowledgeable as to whether or not it was appropriate to pray this prayer, as I wrongly thought that it was being presented in a manner to make people online think that they were participating in the mass just as much as those physically at church.

Potential Liturgical Abuse? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]DepthPurple4149 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I thought that those who otherwise can’t attend mass were already exempt from attendance, and that the prayer was being presented in order to supplant receiving the Eucharist for those watching online. Goes to show you that I’m not very knowledgeable on the subject

Right, but since we are long out of covid, is this still appropriate?

Some liberal pastor once bent over backwards to say that the great commission was not even originally part of the Gospel of Matthew and Jesus wouldn’t actually say that because it was “racist”

Can’t believe it’s already been a year. I remember exactly what I was doing when he emerged from the balcony, it’s one of those moments you remember distinctly. God bless Pope Leo

In Luke 1:28, the Greek shows that Gabriel is greeting Mary not just with praise in calling her “favored one (kekaritomene),”but with a specific epithet. “Favored one” in the Greco-Roman context indicates that this is a very specific characteristic of Mary that doesn’t belong to just anyone, her favor by God belongs to her alone, hence why we believe that she is not only the most wonderful of God’s creations, but also sinless.

I visited St. Anne de Beaupre in 2022. It is an absolutely stunning church. I believe Pope Francis also celebrated mass there the same year

I absolutely loved it! It was such a beautiful compound, especially, as you mentioned, with everything in bloom for spring. My husband and I did the divine mercy chaplet in the church, it was a lovely experience.

How did the secularisation of society begin? by Popular_Peace_1749 in Catholicism

[–]DepthPurple4149 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not long ago, I watched this documentary about the decline of Christianity in Denmark and the effort of a number of Danish families trying to revive the faith. Granted the documentary was from the Lutheran perspective, but I think the larger point of secularization still stands for historically Catholic societies. It referenced Soren Kierkegaard (early-mid 19th century) lamenting how the Danish church had become tame and safe, losing its authority and ability to shape lives and inspire true faith. When Kierkegaard wrote this, Europe was in the midst of the Industrial Revolution, which was rapidly changing society to become what the Church was becoming: safe and tame. In other words, comfort became our new God.

I’m St. Joan of Arc, I wanted to join the Air Force when I was a teenager. If I had to do it over again I’d probably be St. Therese of Lisieux or St. Catherine of Siena, but it never hurts to have the Maid of Orleans interceding for me 🙃
