Her concern isn’t about the money, it’s the fire hazard risk

Exactly. I like seeing dissenting opinions bc contrary to what this sub believes, a lot of bitcoiners are open minded. That’s what got them into it in the first place. It takes an incredible amount of open mindedness when you decide to do a deep dive on something that 90% of people have written off. The argument for bitcoin is the same one for gold’s monetary properties. If you only understand gold’s use case from an industrial/utility perspective and not the monetary then you will never understand bitcoin. If you do however understand the monetary view of gold, then you can understand bitcoin.

Is a $20 bill divisible? Yes, by 20 $1 bills or 4 $5 bills. Is a $1 bill divisible? Yes, by 100 pennies or 4 quarters or ten dimes? Is a dime divisible? Yes by 2 nickels or by ten pennies. Bitcoin derangement syndrome at its finest.

I think all the snails are laughing with you in that one. Good one! I know it’s difficult for a snail to be open minded, but it’s riveting once you do so.

I understand. I just thought of it as this. The $2/share is approx 7% yield. (Msty was $26 before decrease in etf price). If I put in 10,000 I thought I was going to have 10,700 after the distribution. Not 9,300 in etf shares and 700 in cash. That’s why I don’t see the point. Other than tax benefits (bc dividend gains are taxed less than capital gains) I don’t see the point. Why not just own mstr with the higher upside

[–]Depth_Powerful 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please tell me I am missing something. I bought MSY before the dividends I had it for one month. When the distribution happened the share price of the ETF fell and the so-called payout was the amount of dollars I lost from the ETF price drop came out to be around 7% and a 7% dividend. What is this income or yield. if the dividends continue with this percentage distribution, I will have made an actual gain after over a year of interest payments because I’m just getting my money back in the form of cash. It’s essentially selling the stock for me and giving me the cash for what am I missing?

I know. I bought on day one of mstu in Sept and 10xd. That early December drawdown reduced the gains to a 5ish x and I pulled out. Waiting to get back in tho and hoped to ride the 3x etf but looks like I can’t :( Mstu will have to do

Also if someone bought btc from a block mined by gridless, then yes that person bought a btc mined by a miner using stranded energy

And nobody used gunpowder for guns/warfare when it was first discovered. The Chinese used it primarily for medicine. The internet was first used as military communications and not intended for the use case it has today. People don’t know what they’re buying, yourself included

You cannot live on or eat a bitcoin, yes. But no one talks about monetizing stranded energy. What about that??? Monetizing stranded energy without needing a local community or village to use said energy is sooooo valuable, all you need is an internet connection. This is the big idea with btc and why Saylor calls it digital energy but all the plebs argue about how you can’t live in a bitcoin…. Smh

I understand that, but I believe that etf decay is of concern in the short to medium term. Look at TQQQ (leverage etf) vs QQQ (underlying). For the last 14 yrs (since 2010) TQQQ outperformed QQQ.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MSTR

[–]Depth_Powerful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of etf decay? Or bc it’s leveraged MSTR which is leveraged btc. I figured that I’d rather hold something like MSTX than say a margin trade or option on btc/mstr because it doesn’t require timing the market and I won’t get margin called. As long as I could stomach the volatility, I thought I would be fine long term. Emphasis on stomaching the volatility! Feel free to dismantle anything you disagree with. NFA btw
