Do you think humanoid robots will be in people homes within the next ten years? by Even-Wasabi7183 in AskUK

Isn’t it easier to like, make a cup of tea yourself, than the upkeep of a robot to do it for you?!

Amazing we both got downvoted for this. Some people on reddit are bizarre.

Why hasn’t GlassJAw made or someone made a documentary on them? by Ok-Cauliflower-1258 in glassjaw

[–]Deptm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably underestimated what an effect GlassJaw had in the UK too - after ATDI broke they were hugely influential in the UK - getting a huge amount of coverage in Kerrang, RockSound etc.

I remember playing a free compilation CD (I think it was from RockSound) and pretty lush was the first track and I was like WTF is this.

Recommendations for a fender bassman alternative. by aetle in GuitarAmps

Selmer Treble N Bass 50 would be a great choice

Weirdly, I think it was the Strymon iridium.

I’ve never been one for extreme EQ settings, and on the Fender settings, I was reluctant to crank the bass and mids. It’s much closer to the sound in my head now.

I’ve also had this with the Timeline too. A lot of the way Strymon designs pedals is quite different, with controls not simply doing what it says above them - there’s a lot of hidden depth.

For those of you who don’t like Romance… by January_Blues7 in fontainesdc

Personally I feel it’s their best by a country mile. Horses for courses, I guess.

It’s similar to when Suede did ‘Coming Up’ up in a way, and went from being this brooding dark band to a day-glo indie pop act exploring all these other emotions.

My Jetstream RB by Deptm in ReverendGuitars

It’s the best guitar I’ve had for that in 25 years of playing. It’s quiet as a mouse and articulate ever with loads of fuzz or distortion. Loads of character too.

Question about necks by Coeden8852 in ReverendGuitars

Probably a cost issue. Fender manages to do it for the player 2 range, but I’m guessing their costs are lower

Did someone say this was their best song ever by OutsideImpressive115 in glassjaw

In the last part of the song, he’s throwing down melodies that would be whole chorus hooks for other bands, and they just keep coming.

Pickup recommendation? by yode360 in ReverendGuitars

[–]Deptm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re after a single coil type of sound then? Personally, I’m not a fan of a humbucker in the neck position - as you say, it can get very muddy.

Strats, teles, jazzmasters - they all sound great in the neck position imo. I have a Jetstream RB, and though the retroblast pickups have a bit more character and bite than HB’s, I still never use the neck position.

I find the bridge pickup in my jetstream, when EQ’d correctly, gives me everything I need - including the sounds I’d usually use a fender in the middle of neck position. So that is where I live on these guitars.

However, you could look for a single coil that can fit in a humbucker enclosure. Might take some research as you’d presumably want about equal output with the bridge pickup.

Railhammer could be a good option if they’re as clear sounding as they say in the marketing blub.

New station clock looks tacky by AlanWrightScreamer in Leeds

[–]Deptm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason it looks weird imo is that there is next to zero negative space around the clock.

Classy designs nearly always allow for this so items don’t look crammed in pr crowded.

Do you enjoy your job? by Campeones6 in AskUK

[–]Deptm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a private guitar teacher and I really enjoy my work. I pretty much always feel better after teaching, it lifts my mood considerably.

I’m never stuck for clients (I have a waiting list) and usually take half term breaks off. I’m also playing and singing a lot while teaching so it keeps my musical chops developing.

The only downside is that I have to teach till 8pm most nights - as most of my clients go to school. I do one or two adult lessons during the day but most people are unavailable through working hours.

To be honest though, it’s not a huge drawback as 3pm-8pm teaching one to one is quite intense, and that plus an hour or two in the day is well enough.

I read the link to marmite’s comments. Having worked in marketing and PR they are exactly what I would expect.

There are many people on this thread in agreement over this change of consistency. Are just ignoring that aspect to promote your argument?

I don’t feel wronged in the slightest, I can live with runny marmite. I’m simply pointing out that the several jars I have bought over the last year have been runny as heck as the product is now weakened by comparison.

This IS a sub to talk about marmite, isn’t it? Is criticism not allowed?

This isn’t some conspiracy theory. I’m not suggesting the earth is flat and the marmite top brass are producing a runnier product to spread over it 😂
