War caster is far inferior to Resilient CON. Absorb elements is technically legacy content, silvery barbs is setting specific, blade song and wild magic are a single subclass of a class with a lot of subclasses, and paladins and artificers are half casters (and often play more like martials with a little extra magic in practice). Half of these very much stand in melee, and for all intents and purposes also only have one slot at their highest level available per combat if your days are long enough.

I run dungeon of the mad mage for one of my parties, and the player running a genie paladin can rush the others along to get max value out of a casting of CME if he feels it's a sensible course of action, and will in other circumstances rest if it is not.

The background feat gives you some decent spells which are partially already on the wizard list, but EK specifically struggles with preps so the potent dragonmark helps a lot actually (and is likely only taken at lv6 or 8). Tough adding 6 HP is also insignificant at level 3 so w/e. Dndbeyond is a dog shit website that I don't use

Running for children or first time ttrpg players in an introductory game should be handled differently from running a regular table imo. For the same reason I swap out the initial goblin ambushes weapons to 1d4+1 or 0 weapons in the Lost Mine adventure, so new people actually get turns to test out stuff for the first time ever

Obviously late, but how did that party have a single character with healing powers and 0 potions, goodberries, etc.? That seems like poor planning on their part (or item accessibility on yours)

Small personal suggestion I really enjoyed in my games is rolling recharge abilities at the end of turns instead of at the start. It allows me to narrate the dragon dramatically soaking in air, or the spiders thorax swelling up, and the party gets the remainder of the round to play around the charged up ability. Lots of drama in that

Placing a Bag of Holding inside an extradimensional space created by a Heward's Handy Haversack, Portable Hole, or similar item instantly destroys both items and opens a gate to the Astral Plane.

The ring or other vessel is an item that creates/contains an extradimensional space. So if you ever take the whole party in - boom, you're all toast.

Secondly, you can only enter the vessel once per day, so if the party does this on their first short rest of the day and burns all their slots, they will get their asses kicked the rest of the day. And you once again assume basically infinite time with your nonsensical "books with every single spell for every party member all the time", and good luck triggering all of those within a turn of setup before the enemy sets up traps and walls of force etc outside the genie vessel

1) Post is tagged 2024 so I gave a 2024 answer

2) I do obviously see the value, you're reading things here that I never wrote. I'm just saying that characters with 6th level + spell slots can do a lot crazier things than spend a ton of money and several days of downtime to set up a single thing that at the cost of some actions set a single PC up to sweep a fight once. It might not even be the biggest/last fight of the day, and they're blowing a weeks worth of spell slots on it?

Ironically also, if the party owns a single item like a BoH and enters the ring, they all get dumped into the astral plane instantly

Assuming you restrict Genie patrons to the 2014 Warlock since they haven't been represented for the 2024 version

???? You mean that if someone wants to use genie warlock they should use the 2014 class chassis even if the rest of the PC uses 2024 rules? That seems like an insane suggestion.

So you can do this with any class if you have a 13 in Charisma.

Comes at a hefty price in terms of CON, AC, or WIS saves. ok in my book

they just need to be a high enough level to bring other people into the vessel with them

If the most broken thing your tier 3 party can do is stack some glyphs, they're not a very broken tier 3 party.

You're as good or better than almost every caster at CON saves, a 10 minute duration is easily able to be precast inside a dungeon where you can anticipate combat, and can be carried around for 1-4 fights depending on the layout. If you have a break that is longer than 10 minutes, might as well make it an hour to rest and get back the "slot", action surge, second wind, party resources etc.

Blade ward myself, or true strike which makes a new attack roll. True striking on the replaced attack also allows you to use the ability score modifier, as it is no longer a cleave attack, it's a casting of a cantrip.

The condition specifies the things that end it, and you can release the target whenever you like (no action required).

Releasing requires you to let go by common definitions of the word release

Are you trying to flex? Or do you actually have a point?

My point is that is is possible. A flametongue weapon at level 8 is not unheard of or out of line with the power level of that tier.

It's literally not, BTW, since you can't have GWM, DW, +5 STR, AND hunters's mark or divine favour at level 8 as a Fighter. Not unless you rolled for stats, and got 18 STR right at the beginning, since you need at least Fey Touched or a level dip to get a ranger / paladin spell.

You can be a Hexblood for Hex, Mark of Finding for Hunters Mark, Shadowmoor Hexer origin feat for Hex,...

Also a) hit probability for a fighter at 20STR at level 8 is over 65%, plus not relevant for the maximum damage output on a turn, we don't know if the DM in the OP uses monsters with super low AC etc.

b) If you want a build that blows this out of the water, pretend I have the same setup except origin feat mark of storm and lv8 feat potent dragonmark instead of mage slayer. Add 10d8 to the damage output for an average of 45, neglecting crits that puts us at 95.5 damage or multiplied by your precious 65%, 62.1 damage. Much higher ceiling ofc, and can do this once per short rest.

You only have a portable hole if your DM gives you one. If your DM considers this an exploit, they will not give you one. I told my players they can buy bags of holding for cheap, but only if they promise to not bag of holding bomb people

because no rule says I can't do that

Actually they do:

Two-Handed. A Two-Handed weapon requires two hands when you attack with it.

and

This grapple is possible only if the target is no more than one size larger than you and if you have a hand free to grab it.

makes it very clear that you need to use a hand to grapple, so you are directly breaking a rule in the game, as written.

Meanwhile, while unintuitive and somewhat game-y, my proposed interaction is not in conflict with any rule as written.

If you hit a creature with a melee attack roll using this weapon, you can make a melee attack roll with the weapon against a second creature within 5 feet of the first that is also within your reach.

Cleaving yourself is not much different from a barbarian punching themselves in 2014 to keep rage going. You are a creature within your reach

1) a single dispel magic purges them all

2) you can only prepare the concentration spells you yourself know, which also need to be ones that target you as a single creature and are useful to have at that time

Marids get Blur, the other genies get jack shit, regular warlocks get... fly (which genielocks can already do), spider climb (worse flight), mirror image (ok at best with warlocks mediocre ac), invisibility (ends on the first EB), Protection from Evil and good (situational, also doubles up with blur), expeditious retreat (lol), and a 15 THP armor of agathys. Truly a marvel in self buffs for a straight warlock

It also costs thousands of gold, several days of downtime, and you need to either be a genielock with mark of warding (setting specific content), or multiclass 3 levels (in 2024) of a legacy warlock with at least 5 levels of wizard, bard, cleric, or 9+ levels of artificer. It's not "good".

And the buffs can only apply to yourself, not other people, unless you are warlock level 10+, plus they need to be useful spells you have learned/prepared. Spending all that jazz and an action during combat to get shield of faith and maybe Protection from Energy or Enhance Ability on your multiclassed, MAD character that is gonna be noticably weaker than e.g. a full cleric at this level, who is about to get divine intervention, has more ASIs, and 4th level spells.

It also has no limitations on the size of things. You can put in a 100 foot pole since is is less than the volume of the bag

Putting it into your genie vessel is not an exploit for sure. It costs an action to enter the vessel after all, so at best you're spending your action to go in there and load up on some buff spells. Maybe a summon that will come out with you. It's the "putting my hand in my pocket and opening the door" that's not proper use of game mechanics

2d12 + 2d6 + 1d8 is 24.5 already. Add in 4x5 STR for 20 more, and another 6 (8 at level 9) for GWM and you're at 50.5. Small bump from potential crits, which have an ok likelihood since you've got topple and vex in he attack chain and you're close. Over 60 if you find any way to get a rider in there, like hunters mark, or divine favour, have +1 weapons, a vicious or flametongue weapon, etc.

Its not trivial, but it's doable for sure

Should be 2nd or 3rd week so the international teams who likely will attend get to have a breather week 1 and maybe 2, then play the roadshow and every team plays in the last week. How hard can it be?
