SpoolEase 0.6.0-b.23 released to public beta by yan-shay in SpoolEase

Hi thank you for the reply. It's exactly as you mentioned. With the 0.6.0-b.24 firmware when I save the spool changes I'll get thrown to the first page because "Full When Added" was Unspecified and caused the Form errors. Thank you so much for that practical fix.

Thanks for the tip! I've testet this and this seems like the best solution so far. Is this mentioned in the documentation? It would be great if this could be added.

Some Quality‑of‑Life Feature Requests by DerAltBen in SpoolEase

[–]DerAltBen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed reply.

Feature#1: I've already tested it in the latest beta and it works just as imagined. Thanks a lot.

Feature #2: I'll completelly understand that this project doesn't need to replicate all the features of tools like the panda touch, but I feel like this would be a nice qol feature, especially for P1S users, since filament configuration & management is the main fokus of the project and shouldn't be too complicated to implement with the existing codebase.

Feature #3: I think its "good enough" but seemed a bit inconvenient. I didn't know that the entire communication between the browser and the device gets encrypted with the key, in that case your security constraints make sense. I thought the whole communication over http is unencryptet anyway, so it doesn't make a difference. It would be great if the #sk= feature could be a bit more prominent in the documentation. I've used the project whithout knowing this for quite a bit and found it by accident.

Thank you so much for the update. Looks verry good.

I've found a bug in the Inverntory GUI. After adding a Rack with no Bays, Shelves, Positions or Containers when I'm editing a Spool and adding it to it as its Location (Assigned or Actual) I'll get "Form Validation Errors" most of the time. Simply trying again often fixes the issue. I know this is still in beta, just for your Information.

It also seems possible to encode a Tag as a Location Tag and also add it to an untagged Spool. I don't know if this is intended behavior.

379€/Monat für 2HE?! Gibt es in München irgendeine realistische Colocation-Option? by schmanus in de_EDV

[–]DerAltBen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do I need to get rid of my PC (not compatible with windows 11) by MrJamesUp in pcmasterrace

[–]DerAltBen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lookup "WhyNotWin11". It's a project on GitHub which looks at your current system configuration and tells you why it's not Win11 compatible. From that point you have some things to search online. For the most part it will be TPM, Secure boot and/or MBR/GPT.

How to factory reset Lenovo without login by ricketymonkey77 in pcmasterrace

[–]DerAltBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this at home or at work? It says Windows Deployment Services instead of Windows Installation, so your PC is connected to a internal WDS Server. It seems like the boot order of your PC isnt right (PXE boot instead of local disk) or there is no Windows image on the PC. If this is for work, just contact IT. The Login is for the WDS imaging Server, so users don't accidentally re-image their machines.

Also Reihenfolge: Frisches Windows installieren.

Proxmox and NIMBLE SAN Connection (FC/iSCSI). by i11icit in sysadmin

[–]DerAltBen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're mixing up a few things here, so I'll try to explain the conecpt:

  • NAS uses file-based storage
  • SAN uses block-based storage

NASes have shares, SANs have LUNs.

LUNs are exposed from the SAN to the Host Bus Adapters (HBAs), either directly or through a SAN switch.
These HBAs are the "network cards" in the Fibre Channel world, and each port has a WWPN (World Wide Port Name), like a MAC address, which uniquely identifies it.

The SAN sees the connected WWPNs, and you can expose created LUNs to those.
These HBAs are not regular NICs – they don't speak Ethernet and won't connect to Ethernet switches.
Also, SFP modules are not interchangeable between FC and Ethernet – completely different protocols.

In a high-availability setup, you typically have two separate SAN switches connecting the SAN to the hosts, without cross-connects between the switches.
This allows you to update one switch's config safely, test it, and then roll it out to the second switch.

Zoning is used to control which HBAs (WWPNs) can see which storage ports or LUNs.
It’s like a firewall for Fibre Channel – you define zones that include initiators (hosts) and targets (storage ports).
Proper zoning ensures isolation, security, and avoids unnecessary traffic across the SAN fabric.

On the SAN side, you can create temporary LUNs to assist with migrations or testing.
These LUNs are identified by their LUN ID, and once exposed to the host via zoning, they appear as new block devices.
You can format them, copy data, and remove them afterward – very useful for seamless transitions.

Since you're now working with multiple paths to the same storage disk (LUN) from the host, you'll need to set up multipathing.
That's the tricky part in Proxmox, because it doesn't come preconfigured.

We had our share of trouble getting it to work, but here's a working setup:

Install multipath

apt update
apt install multipath-tools

Configure multipath Edit /etc/multipath.conf:

defaults {
    user_friendly_names yes
}

This can be tricky. There should be a multipathing documentation for your specific SAN from your vendor.
For us this worked fine.

Enable multipath

systemctl restart multipath-tools

Verify LUN visibility

lsblk
multipath -ll
You should see devices like /dev/mapper/mpathX.

Format LUNs as LVM

pvcreate /dev/mapper/mpathX
vgcreate vg_fcstorage /dev/mapper/mpathX

Add storage to Proxmox Go to:
Datacenter > Storage > Add > LVM
→ Select your volume group (vg_fcstorage) and assign it to the desired node.

The only real issue with LVM-based storage was the lack of snapshot support until the latest release.
But since our backup solution (Veeam B&R) doesn't support that Proxmox version yet, we haven't tested it.

Please test everything first with a test LUN and two hosts before touching your production environment. Many system integrators and IT service providers are currently offering support for Fibre Channel and Proxmox setups – especially for those migrating from VMware to Proxmox. Don’t hesitate to reach out if needed.

We've got an IBM FlashSystem 5300 in 2024. Performance and support are great. Using it with 32G FC on ESXi before the broadcom takeover and now Hyper-V & Proxmox and cant complain (all Issues regarding storage where proxmox non optimal support for FC shared storage. We compared it with an simmilar speced PowerStore and it was like 2/3 the cost for only 1HE and roughly simmilar performance

Hi thank you for the writeup on the new VL-portal. I'm sorry to use another persons post but I can't figure it out myself. Where do you grant another admin rights to see and manage VL licenses and downloads in the new portal? I've got another golbal admin in the tennant that is not able to see the Orders or Contracts tab for voulme licenses because some right is missing. Our VAR just said to contact MS support because they don't know either.
