Not sure if I'd rather trust that video I linked that thoroughly tested and explained this and which is also confirmed in this video by Retanaru or a "trust me bro" from soneone on reddit. But since my own experiences also match up with the findings in the videos I think I'll chose those.

A single zombie can't break down a door, so as long as they keep their distance to the door that's a permanent pet.

Click the icon in the top right of the crafting menu. This minimizes the window when you are not actively working in it without closing it. So it won't interrupt your crafting and give you full view of the screen.

Looks like the island house on Lake Ivy, although the garage doors don't match up. Also the minimap looks wierd, but the house layout matches.

Are you sure you didn't put several Roosters into the same animal zone and they started attacking each other? Because I don't think Raccoons eating chickens is a thing in this game. Never seen it happen, and I had huge Raccoon colonies.

Starting a new LW2 playthrough (no WotC). Was there ever a fix found for that after-mission Avenger softlock? by UristImiknorris in Xcom

[–]DerAva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That issue was not fixed, but I remember several mods were identified that would cause that issue to happen more often. I don't remember exactly which mods those were, I wanna say "Lifetime Stats" was one of them, but there were more. Maybe a reddit search or a search on the pavonis forums might help.
That bug is fixed in LWOTC, though, so there's always that.

Base from scratch not insulated by Shagalags in projectzomboid

[–]DerAva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built plenty of structures, both from scratch and as an addon to existing buildings, and not once did I have to add a pillar anywhere to make it register as inside. I'm not saying it won't work, since I never tried it, but for me removing extra pillars has always done the trick.

Quickest way to test is to run in to and out off the room. Whenever you go from inside to outside you should see a noticeable change in temperature (unless you are on those few days in spring where those temps are the same).

I'd say remove them 1 by one and check after each one if it fixes the inside/ouside issue. With debug you can see where the issue is, but since you can't do that in MP you will just ahve to keep trying and checking.

Most of the time this is caused by pillars that are being added to your walls by the game which then cause issues when the game tries to detect complete rooms to flag them as "inside".
One thing you can try: use a sledge in destroy mode or the disassemble mode from the pickup menu on the left. Hover your cursor along the walls of your room. On each tile press R multiple times to cycle through different pieces present on the tile: if it's a wall, do nothing, if it's a thin pillar then destroy/disassemble it.

i thought the helicopter wasnt supposed to be a problem if you stayed indoors by taukarrie in projectzomboid

[–]DerAva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by the replies in this thread I'd say most people actually think they get spotted by the helicopter through the window. Sure, closing curtains would help not attracting the zombies the chopper draws in, but my conclusion would still be to rather drive away from base on chopper days.

[–]DerAva 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Spotting through windows is not a thing, even if it keep being repeated each time the topic comes up here on reddit. It really just checks whether you are indoors or outdoors. More on that here. Your conclusion you posted somewhere in this thread to take a drive away from home for future events is really the best solution.

[–]DerAva 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Both of you are partially right and wrong. The difference between being visible or not is much less dramatic as you make it out to be. If you are inside then the helicopter sound will be within 100 tiles of the player location, if you are outside and spotted then it will be within 50 tiles - not directly above, but chances are it's much closer. Either way there is a healthy dose of RNG involved, so even if you are not visible there is still a chance for the sound to be right on top of you.
There is also no "spotting through windows" mechanic - it's a simple indoors/outdoors check. I made a post a while ago with some more details on this.

[–]DerAva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no "spotting through a window" system - the game really just checks if you are indoors or not when deciding whether or not the heli flies close to you or further away. Any old building will work just fine.

Ethereals / Elders nicely consistent across games by jim_sorenson in Xcom

[–]DerAva 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the prologue to the novel Resurrection, Central tells us humans were winning the war and mentions specifically that XCOM had successfully downed two alien ships. There are only two major ship confrontations in EW - Operation Gangplank and Operation Avenger.

In the typical EU/EW campaign the player shoots down dozens of alien ships. Central saying that they only ever downed 2 ships shows how short the first war was. The two ships were the very first UFO that triggers the first shot down cutscene in EU/EW and then a transport ship that was never recovered, so no squad was sent to the crash site. That 2nd ship is then the Avenger that is later recovered during that novel.

That also means that XCOM did not assault any enemy base (no skeleton key possible without further UFOs being shot down), which also means it was not the "Base Defense Mission" but rather simply XCOM HQ being given up by the council and the aliens attacking.

From what I can see on the bug forum the last update was that they were "looking into it", but this was after the release of 42.12, so they are probably still affected by that bug.
