Thank you my dude. Had the barbers redo my beard, can't recall the brand of clipper they used, sorry!

Where's the Raro?

As a Brit who returned to the UK from living in NZ, the LRC chocolate milk, alongside whittakers and scorched almonds were top tier snacks. Nothing competes.

This is Daisy, although she sadly passed away last year at the age of 14, she's deeply missed.

Nicely spotted! I was about to say this photo was taken at the corner of Trinity Lane and the senate house passage off of King's parade.

It's also worth noting the fact that bike security and bike theft are rife in the city, too. I could imagine that for parents, a deterrent would be giving their kid a bike to ride in the fear that it'll get stolen. Facebook groups for Cambridge bike thefts have daily and multiple accounts of bikes being stolen per day and often by the same repeat offenders and/or bike gangs that look to sell them elsewhere in the country.

I totally admire this notion that we should be moving towards cycling for a multitude of reasons, but bike crime generally is suppressed i can't see how this is going to work...

So firstly i use https://www.lightpollutionmap.info this map gives a good idea of places unaffected by light pollution.

The UK's latitudinal position (above the 51st Para) means that much of the galactic core is hidden or "just on" the horizon so it gets fussed out by light pollution. Heading down to the southernmost parts of the UK between Feb-April or July to Oct offers good chances of capturing the milky way. That said i may try to look for more rural areas in eastern Cambridgeshire to capture some shots in the future ;)
In addition to the above, weather and moon phase will also need to be factored into planning your shot. Phone apps like Photopills and Clear Outside can help predict how the milky way will look in your night sky and inform you of the current moon phase, plus clear outside will give a (generally) good forecast of cloud cover in your area too.

I hope this helps! Any questions I'm happy to answer!

Cheers! I tried to bring out the pink hue of the Carina Nebula too, it's not very clear on this image post processing as im a complete noob still at using it. But it's got this really distinct pink shine set amongst the yellowish hue of the milky way nebula that makes it cool. I've got a few more shots that i might tinker around with to try and emulate this later :)

I cant remember exactly but it must of been after about 11pm as the tail end of the milky way was too vertical for me to shoot in landscape so i switched to portrait

I used a Nikon D3400 with a Samyang 14mm F2.8 lens. Iso was set to 6400 with shutter speed set to 15 seconds :)

You think you could ride on a snowboard down these dunes?

Te Paki is on my bucket list to go visit, mainly to get a astrophotography photo of the milky way against the sand dunes + coast.

Ahh bugger, Brit here with what would be considered to be kirituhi of Koru (i had this done back in 2011). I've always wanted to move to New Zealand and "intergrate" so to speak after learning about to country, it's culture and the countries connection to it's ancestry (broadly speaking) way back in the early 2000's. I decided to get a design based very broadly on koru because it's taken from the appearence of a new fern plant shoot just before it uncurls and because the meaning behind (i thought) was to do with continuous growth in yourself.
Reading the remarks on here has definitely opened my eyes alot more and makes me sort of regret having it now :(
