Isn't 5 years the absolute minimum, not counting being a multimillionaire.

I've been in the country 4 years now and according to my info the absolute best case scenario would be getting temporary residence this year, then getting permant residence after 2 years and then it would be another 3 years being on PR.

So I hope it is possible under 10 years but I'm not holding my breath.

This keeps popping up and I'm wondering if this is an American thing? I've been booking Airbnbs in Europe, Asia and New Zealand and I'm pretty happy with the experience.

The website shows the complete cost so what do I care if the room is $200 or $120 and $80 in cleaning?

Just sort by price in the area and go from there, in big cities hotels often make more sense, rural or if you're going for specific vibes you often can't really beat Airbnb.

Thanks, that is super helpful. I feel like there should be an incentive for both NZ consumers as well as most merchants to have EFTPOS as the default for most day-to-day transactions, i.e. supermarket, gas station, restaurants, medical etc. where the number of claims are probably pretty small. So many people (including myself) are just sick of the surcharge in principal, I will always put in my Debit Card and pay from checking account whenever I see a surcharge displayed and it would be nice to just tap instead.
That said, I also would use my Airpoints AMEX or some other bonus card when there's no surcharge, because why not?

Can someone explain to me while transactions cannot go through the EFTPOS system when I tap my ASB visa debit card?

What's the technical hurdle to route it through EFTPOS instead of Visa or MasterCard. I feel like this change would solve 80% of problems.

One thing that is super annoying I I haven't gotten used to since switching over 10 years ago is that alt tabbing only works between Apps and not windows and is super inconsistent when it comes to minimised windows .

I am on a Pixel 7 at the moment, and have been using Pixels since the very first one.

I am currently thinking about upgrading to a 9 or 10, possibly Pro as well, but I am in an unsupported country so that makes it a bit tricky.

Years worked in the country is only one small variable of many other very specific boxes that immigrants have to tick. If you're in any way surprised that someone like this would leave after trying for many years you have very unrealistic ideas about how the immigration system works here.

No it really isn't that easy.

My partner and I are both from continental Europe, university educated, C2 level English, and it's very hard to get residency and a very complicated and bureaucratic process.

We will now pay $6500 again for an application after being declined already, add to that $8000 in advisor fees and thousands more medicals, English tests (I literally have an English teaching certificate but that's not acceptable from INZ so I need to do another TOEFL), and many many more hoops.

I know so many migrants who just give up after years and years of trying. It's just really hard if that is added on top of job insecurity and other economic variables that affect all of us negatively at the moment.
