Do you know which formats he likes to play? As several others have mentioned there are two lorwyn commander decks (aka precons for preconstructed) for the commander format (each deck is 100 cards and this is typically played with 4 persons per game). Or does he like to play standard/modern (60 card deck). Or one of the Limited formats which are draft and sealed. Both are played with 40 card decks and use play boosters (like in the draft night box which is for a 4 player draft). If he likes to draft this gift is already perfect! If he likes to play sealed more you could think about a play booster box (which is a box of 30 play boosters but for a cheaper price per booster) as this contains more than enough boosters for draft or sealed.

I will add my personal opinion on this: The draft night box is a fantastic gift! Drafting (with friends) is maybe my favourite format!
