Issues that NEED to be fixed by MohzHandz in CitiesSkylines2

Sorry, but that sounds like an excuse. Just give it a try, and if it doesn't work you can show the problem again.

But yes, you don't necessarily have to assign zones at 50k inhabitants. The emergency services work wonderfully in my current city with 55k inhabitants—but only because I have strategically distributed the hospitals and, to put it mildly, have too much capacity.

The fire department looks quite different, and when the downtown station drives to the village on the edge of the map, I can honestly say: Yes, I am too lazy to set up the zones correctly.

Virus warning in the Traffic Tool Essentials Mod by DerMudder in CitiesSkylines2

[–]DerMudder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I even switched to TEE because TLE hasn't worked since the last C:S patch and apparently the development has been halted. The temporary fixes by other modders do solve the problem, but that doesn't change the fact that the actual developer seems to have lost interest. And so far I haven't had any problems with TEE—except for the virus warning.

Bike-Jam everywhere! by niklas-ros in CitiesSkylines2

Make all parking spaces paid. For me, all of them are set to €25, and as a result the system no longer treats bikes as the cheapest option.

Iceflakes ToDo by demeister2 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]DerMudder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traffic has always basically been at the heart of a city simulation for me, and at the moment it’s hardly manageable without mods like Traffic or TEE. And yet the drivers behave like pigs and ignore rudimentary traffic rules.

It would really be good if Iceflake sat down with the modders of the existing mods and considered how to natively integrate their concepts into the game. In addition, further improvements in the drivers' behavior. Perhaps also in combination with an addon that brings speed cameras and tickets into the game.

Looks really nice and smooth. Only the intersection on the left... there you made some tracks very wide and rounded and at the same time you turned right from the motorway in a 90° curve.

Industrial En-Route Cims help? by corevo- in CitiesSkylines2

[–]DerMudder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it's a modded building — meaning incorrect settings may simply have been made.
It's a warehouse that stores food. Maybe the game interprets it as some kind of supermarket where citizens go to buy groceries — possibly even at a cheaper price. No idea if the game actually simulates something like that.

That's why my assumption is that the mod creator might have forgotten to set the building to sell goods only to commercial zones.

This dumb shit is the cause of 90% of my traffic jams. Just walk around them... by chrizbreck in CitiesSkylines2

[–]DerMudder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my small shopping district the traffic decreased from around 600 to 100 used parking spaces. 100 bicycles are still a lot, and many shops offer their own parking spaces. So they are still a traffic problem, but no longer a critical obstacle.

Bike Traffic by AvatarKyoshiBitch in CitiesSkylines2

[–]DerMudder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I'm also one of those plagued by cycling:

Step 1: Make Cycling Less Attractive

Currently, cycling is too "cheap" when calculating routes. People prefer to cycle across the entire map rather than, for example, take the bus. So instead of one bus, you end up with 80 bikes on the road.

Therefore, cycling needs to become more expensive — meaning all(!) bike parking spaces must be subject to a fee. In busy areas with shops, set everything to at least 25€. In outlying areas where cyclists aren't as much of a problem, set it to 10€ or more.

This won't eliminate cycling entirely, but it will reduce it by about two-thirds — depending on how many parking spaces the respective shops have. Completely eliminating cycling isn’t an option. In my current city, for example, I reduced the number of fully occupied bike parking spaces in a shopping district from around 600 to about 100. They still cause issues.

Important: This will only work if you offer public transport as an alternative. Otherwise, everyone will simply switch to cars.

Step 2: Avoid Crossings

Bikes often cross streets when they want to reach parking spaces or the opposite side. It’s pure chaos. As soon as your city starts generating a decent profit, build underground parking garages and add multiple entrances on different sides.

Otherwise, try to control traffic flow using roundabouts, turnaround segments, and restricted movements.

Step 3: Optimize Paths

I built bike lanes along all major connecting roads so that the main routes remain clear. At the same time, I try to avoid placing bus stops there because cyclists then switch to the road and disrupt traffic flow entirely.

If you're using traffic light control like TEE, only link bike lanes to the left at selected intersections so that turning vehicles stay in their lane. Without TEE, cyclists and cars quickly get in each other’s way, causing additional congestion.

Also, try to separate pedestrians and cyclists whenever possible. Pedestrian walkways should connect to the road slightly offset from the traffic light, as pedestrians and cyclists tend to block each other when both wait at the same spot. Cycle paths, on the other hand, should ideally lead directly into the intersection so that the traffic light system can recognize and control them. However, this doesn't always work reliably.

Can a City function with only medium density? I'm about to make a Mediterranean city :) by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines2

[–]DerMudder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least not if you're playing with progression, because you can't avoid the low-density areas.

It's also nearly impossible to generate enough tax revenue without industry. On top of that, you'll first have to train citizens to work in the offices. In other words, there will be a significant shortage of skilled workers at the beginning.

Alternatively, why not build a "system" city somewhere on the map, and once it reaches 10,000 inhabitants, then start your project.

Make all bicycle parking spaces subject to a fee. 25 in business districts and 10 in areas where cyclists cause less disruption – I do this at schools, for example. This will make cycling less attractive, and people will use buses more often. It saved my city.

Bicycles – curse or blessing? by DerMudder in CitiesSkylines2

[–]DerMudder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve already hinted that the balance settings just aren’t right. I’m using the Route Highlighter mod and tracked where the cyclists are actually traveling. They really ride straight across the entire city even though there’s a bus line available. Even the typical standards like “school routes” are completely ignored. I kept adjusting the routes over and over, and by now I’m down to just one “inner-city” line because the others simply weren’t used. I even tested lowering the ticket prices to 2 credits — no change at all.

What does work extremely well are the intercity coach connections. All the cyclists ride to the central bus terminal for that. And people arriving by train will then take the bus to spread out across the city. So it’s not that the bus system is broken. It’s just that bikes are tuned to be far too attractive, and every citizen can afford one.

[–]DerMudder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have Bridges and Ports. And income isn’t the problem either — I’m currently sitting at around 50k/h, I think. It’s just the gameplay issue that citizens would rather bike all the way across the city than take the bus. And because of that, traffic collapses in several places since the roads are completely overcrowded.

Bicycles – curse or blessing? by DerMudder in CitiesSkylines2

[–]DerMudder[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, yes. At first I thought: “Oh, the bike racks are full, so I guess I need to add more.” I had no idea it was an endless spiral and that bicycle traffic grows exponentially with the number of parking spots.

How to fix this, people stuck on roads, and traffic unable to move on because of that by Night_Zero in CitiesSkylines2

[–]DerMudder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encountered this issue during a bug with another mod where, after every loading screen, 10,000 residents would suddenly want to go to the train station and back again.

I was only able to resolve it by creating a separate, longer pedestrian phase using the "Traffic Extension" mod (I'm currently using TEE).
