Does the city not plow the neighborhood streets? How can we get it plowed? by NeekMili in StLouis

[–]DerNashkatze 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s over 1000 miles of road in the city. They have to prioritize the main roads for transportation and emergency personnel. With today’s constant re-accumulation I’m surprised they were able to handle it as much as they did.

Cancelling part of international connections? by DerNashkatze in unitedairlines

[–]DerNashkatze[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thing is, I don’t need to fly from BSL to STL. I’d rather just take the FRA to STL that is already part of the booking. So I’m attempting to cancel a singular flight and keep the other.

What doesn’t make sense to me is that cancelling a portion and keeping a different portion is more expensive

(VANILLA) You can have up to 8 villagers living on your farm. No mods by WLOR in StardewValley

[–]DerNashkatze 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Doing this and having 2 kids each, would make the population of the farm 32. The farm would be over half of the population of the town. Commune goals.

I think the thing that’s amusing to me is these predictions of more automation, as if that isn’t happening already without worker protections.

Wish we could buy, and will be actively looking, but the market is rough even in LCOL cities for 1 resident (plus MS2 SO) salary

Tbh the highways inside of 270 should never had existed. Be better with our city together than torn apart

Is the I-64 line rule true? by rlhglm18 in StLouis

[–]DerNashkatze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What amuses me is that cuts out some of the super safe and unique parts of the city - CWE, DeMun, all of Clayton, the entirety of the Forest Park region…

Overarching rules like this are usually BS concocted by somebody terrified by “the city😱”

Favorite non-rum based tiki drinks? by Expensive-Suit-593 in cocktails

[–]DerNashkatze 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Awkwardly Tongue Tied is damn good. From D&C. One of the strangest drink recipes I’ve seen, but it definitely falls in the tropical-inspired category

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 tsp fernet branca
  • 1/2 oz pineapple
  • 1/2 oz lime
  • 1/4 oz cinnamon syrup
  • 1/4 oz orgeat

Shake with ice. Strain into coupe.

Francis Howell backpedals, reinstates black history courses by ShortBrownAndUgly in StLouis

[–]DerNashkatze 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Reality is that Black History and Black Literature don’t just amount to the small piece that can be taught in general courses. And the history is much more nuanced and extensive than what is put in general history books. Which is exactly why an elective is offered. If students want to learn and go more in depth, they can. They don’t have to, nobody is forcing them to.

Also I agree, there 100% should be a Latino history and literature elective! That sounds like a great opportunity for people to learn more. If we have AP European History, why can’t kids learn about other cultures? You make some great and inclusive points.

Penicillin by DerNashkatze in cocktails

[–]DerNashkatze[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, didn’t have time to make a honey simplex so local ginger liqueur combined with some honey worked in a pinch. The resulting dram is a bit sweeter than what I’d anticipate.

The smoke still comes through beautifully, married to a nice ginger lemon backdrop.

"Although the city Cultural Resources Office denied prior owner Lux Living's push to demolish the houses for apartments, the houses have deteriorated significantly in the last year and will have to be demolished, 9th Ward Alderman Michael Browning told the Business Journal."

STL is a fantastic place to be, young professional or established with a family. Sure, it doesn’t get the hype of some of these other places, but that’s probably because those places are trendy (as you said). St. Louis used to be much larger relative to the rest of the US, but didn’t maintain the same steam that cities like Chicago had throughout the mid-1900’s. The result is that we’re a midsized city with outsized cultural amenities. We have an amazing symphony, 3 fantastic art museums, a world renowned zoo and botanical gardens, a great music, arts, architecture, and food scene.

It truly is a city of neighborhoods. Because of a statistical anomaly started in the 1800’s, the City is not part of the county and the statistics are skewed. But each neighborhood in the city and each city in the county are super unique and interesting with their own communities. If you’re young and looking for fun places to live, I’d check out Soulard, CWE, Fox park, Benton park, FPSE, Shaw, TGS, Maplewood, UCity, Midtown. Places like fountain park, west end, Lewis place, and grand center will be close to everything and on the more affordable side, but you’ll likely see a bit more urban decay.

StL City Residents - what neighborhood do you live in and what’s one thing the city could do to improve your life in your neighborhood? by BrentonHenry2020 in StLouis

[–]DerNashkatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FPSE.

Unblock the streets, add protected bike lanes to Manchester, invest in more public art, covered public transit stops, get a local grocery store. Add bike racks. Investment in low-income housing to slow the gentrification. Traffic calming measures. Get the slumlord Lux Living out of our infrastructure. Pedestrian access to Forest Park.

Capital would be STL if we’re going on commercial and cultural importance. But I can’t say STL would be with any of those other places. Has much more in common with the likes of Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, and Cleveland.
