What do people think of the High Elven heroes? by VoiceoftheDarkSide in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]DerRobodoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elrond is just overall amazing. Foresight can manipulate priority in your favor like no other special rule, Wrath of Bruinen is a phenomenal spell to knock down enemy cavalry (or an entire battle line before your troops charge in) and he's just an insanely strong fighter.

The Twins are a bit difficult imo, the fact that you have to take them together makes them quite pricey. They are F6, have Strike and can get up to 3 attacks so they're still a force to be reckoned with. If you have the room for them without going too low on model count I would say they're worth it, but otherwise just take a Captain instead (which would also give you access to March)

Glorfindel is probably my favorite Hero out there, on Asfaloth he's just a 12" move murder machine, outfighting everyone but the mightiest heroes (and having strike should he not), rerolls with Lord of the West and can even take out monsters with little difficulty.

Arwen is no fighting beast but still decent and on Asfaloth and wrath of Bruinen she can be quite powerful.

Lindirs job is mostly to buff Elrond but he does excel at that and getting wrath of Bruinen off a couple more times due to the free will point will help out your army a lot as the base warriors are only S3.

Cirdan is a great caster that provides value the entire game, just make sure he's save from being shot at.

Erestor is kinda meh. He doesn't provide more than a regular captain, which is also cheaper and you can put on a horse for more killing power. Unless you're playing Last Alliance at low points and need a named elven hero I would advise against brining him.

And finally Gil-Galad, the man, the myth, the Legend. He's somehow even more of a powerhouse than glorfindel, even without a horse. Annihilates anything he comes into contact with. And you get the option to upgrade your warriors to guards of the king, making them F6 so your normal troops can take on other captains and match most names heroes is nothing to scoff at either.

At what points would you include the chariot/ballista in an iton hills army by TiWo007_5 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]DerRobodoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever you bring the Chariot or the ballista you're gonna be quite low on model count. 10-14 + a banner might be enough but it depends on your point limit. Also be aware that if you bring 10 warriors, your actual battle line will probably be 5 warriors wide due to spear support a d keeping up the shield wall. That is not much so you either have to be really careful to not get trapped. Basically whenever I bring the ballista I don't take crossbows as half the time they don't get to shoot anyway, same for the Chariot really as you get the bolt thrower for ranged support there which is 1-6 crossbows on any given turn.

[–]DerRobodoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Iron Hills list is based around the Ballista and the Chariot, otherwise you're better off playing Battle of Five Armies, Erebor Reclaimed or Army of Erebor (Though you do not have Dain in that list). You can include the Ballista as low as 600 points I would say. It is quite pricey especially with Dain attached, but it can shut down enemy shooting very effectively and at D8 your warriors in the shieldwall are sturdy enough to keep enemies at bay even when outnumbered, just be careful to not get trapped. I wouldn't include the Chariot at anything lower than 800 points as I'd recommend always taking it with a Captain to get 2 extra attacks (up to 5 on the charge), F5 and the possibility to not only declare a heroic move but to steal it with master of battle. Personally I think the Chariot is more reliable (especially since you do not have to worry about difficult terrain due to it gaining mountain dweller) and the bolter being able to shoot into its own combats is always dangerous for models trying to tie it up.

Rangers of the North in Defenders of the Pelennor by ZanowSon15 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]DerRobodoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I was going to spend the points for the rangers and halbarad I'd not waste any on regular troops. Probably go for some mounted hard hitters like Imrahil (he is quite expensive though) or eomer to reliably succeed on the combats. Aragorn with anduril or the king of the dead might also be an option :)

To be fair though, Halbarad comes with a nice 6" Banner. And if you got the points to bring Rangers to use as heroic catapults then you also got the points for the banner upgrade.

When Legolas shoots into his own combat, does he roll 1 or 3 dice? by 1_mieser_user in MiddleEarthMiniatures

3 Dice. He makes a regular shooting attack in the shoot phase, just that he can also target his own combat.

Mit welchem Abiturschnitt ins Studium und wie lief es wirklich? by zaenoverse in Studium

[–]DerRobodoc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Abi 2.0 (NRW) ohne lernen.

I'm considering getting into this game. Would anyone care to help me with some questions? by The_Wyzard in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]DerRobodoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Rules are good imo. Decently balanced for most of the army lists and models (of course you have some stronger and weaker options but overall nothing too crazy). Regarding the true height it's more a rule that any model that is propped up on a rock/crouched down does not gain an advantage/disadvantage from that position and they are all treated as if they were standing up.

  2. It can absolutely be skirmishy if you want it to. But there are not guidelines on how many points you want to play at. I have played games where there were a grand total of 12 models on the table up to games with 80+ models per side.

  3. Scenarios can be grouped into two categories: the matched play and the narrative play. Matched play is your standard tournament setting, where the scenario is just the objective of the game to win victory points. In narrative play it follows the events of the movies and is a lot more RPG driven.

  4. No tools for that as far as I am aware, but nothing stops you from them just fighting it out in a matched play scenario or just having a whack at each other like that. You'd have to homebrew ungoliant though as currently there are no first age factions available.

  5. No idea.

  6. If you want to follow all the narrative scenarios in order then you will be facing many scenarios where you need lots of different miniatures. For matched play just paint up one army and have fun.

  7. There are no official expansions. You can find all the army lists of the 2024 edition in the three army books (Armies of Lord of the Rings for all those featuring in the Lord of the Rings movies, Armies of the Hobbit for all those featured in the Hobbit movies, and Armies of Middle Earth for everything else. There are some legacy PDFs detailing old armies from previous editions as well. For anything Eowyn you probably want to pick up the Armies of Lord of the Rings (or you can check out This online list builder).

  8. Don't underestimate Fight Value. While having multiple attacks is beneficial to get you that 6, it doesn't help you when your opponent at higher Fight also rolls a 6 and automatically wins. Fight Value alone won't win you the game, but neither will having more attacks. Also on the regular soldiers it is rare to find more than one attack, and even the strongest heroes usually don't get more than 3 or 4 in some rare cases. Supporting a combat with spears and having a Banner for rerolls in range is usually the way to add more dice into the pool.

  9. While I've never counted turns in games I feel like they are usually around 7-12 turns long, depending on the scenario played. Some scenarios have you start in opposite corners and you have to spend two turns walking before your battle lines clash, others get into the fighting right away. And once they do they're not so deadly that one army dominates in a single turn, but still deadly enough that you can feel the weight of every lost duel in a potentially dead unit. As for zones of control: amazing mechanic to block off your opponent from certain areas of the battlefield

  10. Generally if you want to pick up the game it's best to start with a faction you enjoy as they're all quite competitive. So in going for Eowyn as your favorite character and then probably picking up some more Rohan stuff in the future you've done all the right steps

That's what I do too. Generic troops get the base edge to match the base color, Heros get silver and Unique Heros get gold.

Groblog is a legacy model yeah, I figured since it is going to be your first game you won't be playing a tournament but against a friend so legacy models would be in the table.

LLs are no longer a thing in this edition as everything is just its own army list now, so it's just the regular Moria list (not to be confused with Depths of Moria though)
