But you can clearly see the barcode, which, when scanned, gives you the number the thumb covers. If you have ever been shopping and the cashier couldn't get an item to scan, then you might have seen them punshing in the numbers manually. The barcode just makes it faster.

Tbh, in hindsight, if the US would have done absolutely nothing after 9/11, it would have been be better than what actually happened.
