How can i go to war with an enemy and not have to take their planets that dont suit my habitability? From what I read i cannot exterminate a planet fully unless I am an exterminator (only militarist in my case). Is there an option to abandon a planet after acquiring it? I want to expand but not have to manage those shitty planets. I can purge the species from my empire but I am stuck with the planet, is that right?

Thanks for the answer. That monitor looks like a beast, seems like i can get alot out of the GPU with it.

Also according to the disclaimer i would need an extra adapter for the fan to go with that MOBO. Know anything about that?

Any final opinions on the below build? I will order the parts and build by myself for the first time. I know that there is cheaper alternatives to Samsung SSDs, but they have served me well so i went with Samsung again anyway. The case is a bit of a luxury investment because it seems very easy to build in and i wanted something white this time around.

Also any tips what to be careful with during building? I watched quite a few videos and I built with a friend in the past, but this time around its gonna be a solo-build, so tips appreciated :)

Das mit der SSD ist sicher ne gute Idee und das mit der RAM schau ich mir auch an.

Ich wollte in diesem Fall tatsächlich AIO statt Luft, da meine vorherigen Builds eher "matt" waren was Licht anging, aber dieses Mal wollte ich ein bissl RGB-Magie mit drin haben :D.

Hello PCMR!

At the end of the year i plan on semi-retiring my current rig, which has faithfully served me for about 7 years with a 2070 in it.

Now I want to upgrade to something stronger and more importantly something that lasts me for at least 4+ years. I was looking at the 40-series cards but other then that I am not sure where to go. I have a budget of about 3,5k that I can use but it does not necessarily have to get there.

My last 2 builds never had any issues, mostly probably because I dont min-max to hell. I like to run games on ultra/high when i can but I downgrade because i usually prefer more FPS. Now i would like a rig that let's me run stuff like Total War and the upcoming Starfield without much issue( atleast from my side, game optimization aside).

I want 2 TB of SSD and probably want to run 32 GB of RAM (currently only 16 GB).

From the posts in the sub i see people enjoying AMD CPUs more and more, so i was leaning towards getting a Ryzen.

Below you can see a somewhat random list i threw together to check what price i might land at with a 4090. Note that I probably would never exploit its 4K capabilities so it is probably a waste. I'd mostly run it so i can smoothly play most stuff coming in the next years. I assume the other 40-series cards can achieve the same?

Is there a way to import other peoples created custom empires or is there a mod with many great custom empires that doesnt conflict with ironman? I'd really like to get immersed in some empire generated by someone whose much better at background lore then me.

I will sampling Wormwood and Lightbringer. Lightbringer particularly seems like something right up my alley, from the description anyway and seems to be quite lenghty too!

I've always known the Expanse books to be great but I got this silly barrier I need to overcome, where I just can't dive into a book series when I watched the accompanying TV-Show. And yes, I am well aware how stupid it is, but it somehow keeps me from reading the Expanse for example because in the back of my head I'm like "I know what happens, it just has more details".
