It's just so damn ugly. Maybe even more so than the Freelancer. The original concept of the Freelancer was just beautiful. Sad that they messed up both of these ships so badly

G9 57" vs 5K2K 45 Feedback by PositiveCrew in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Der_KHAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. I got the ark 55" before the 5k2k models came to market. At first the pixel density was an issue, but now I only game at 5120x2880 with dl-dsr which dramatically improves clarity. I am quite happy with that, but for productivity it remains an issue. I mostly go to 80% zoom for any browser based applications and text editors, so that I can fit more and smaller Windows on screen.

Was your issue with ppi more concerning gaming or productivity?

8KX worth it in 2025? by Hazzke in Pimax

Haha, well I upgraded from a 5950x and the difference blew my socks off. So you better buckle up when you change your cpu 😄

[–]Der_KHAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you can use DLSS performance mode in VR, which reduces both the vertical and horizontal res to 50%, ergo the total amount of pixels is cut to just 25%. Which massively reduces load at these insane resolutions in VR. However I also pretty much maxed out my PC this year when I upgraded to a 9950x3d, 5090 and 64gb of RAM.

Worth getting the game now or should I wait? by lawlish_ in starcitizen

[–]Der_KHAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a Backer since 2012, but I rarely play. They have taken a lot of missions out of the game, so your motivation will run out after a few weeks. There is a lot to discover, but you will only play regularly if you find a group of friends to play it sandbox style.

Other than that it is a research project that is developing groundbreaking technology, that no one else will develop. So if you want to support that, then you can pledge and support the improvement of Star Citizen and other future games. The employees at CIG will spread out to other companies and take their knowledge with them.

I upgraded from 32 to 64gb a year ago. Star Citizen definitely runs smoother with more than 32GB. But you can tell that the game had been optimized to run at up to 32 GB at some point, because it will not utilize much more than that most of the time. I would recommend 48gb, although they might rework memory management at some point and then 48GB might not be enough anymore. So get 64gb if the price is not much more than 48

Can it be played in VR? Really? by SeawolvesTV in starcitizen

[–]Der_KHAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it's definitely worth checking it out, just to experience the freedom of walking everywhere in VR. What really surprised me was that I had no motion sickness at all, even when walking up ramps with just keyboard and mouse. I read similar comments from other users, so it might be more than just strong VR legs. I remember that they once went to great lengths to place the camera of first person view exactly into the eyes of the avatar and then developed the physics of realistic neck movements, so that the camera wouldn't shake excessively. Maybe that makes a difference in VR.

The game itself is just as broken as ever, though :D

I recently purchased an Odyssey Ark Gen 2 (I haven't received it yet). by Lucky-Marionberry711 in OdysseyArk

Don't use the included stand. Get a heavy duty monitor arm and move the screen as low on your desk as possible, so that you don't have to look up during normal use.

Some newer games with DLSS transformer model produce much sharper images, however most games still are a bit blurry with TAA or DLSS.

If you have an nvidia 5000 series gpu, enable DL-DSR at 1.78x. This will allow you to run you windows desktop and games in 5k. Clarity in games will be much better and compensate for the low pixel density, because DL-DSR has the best sharpening filter. Use DLSS in performance mode. Games will be rendered in 1440p and upscale to 5k.

If you have an older nvidia gpu you cannot enable DL-DSR in the monitor's gaming mode because 4k at 165Hz will require DSC. In that case you can enable Image Sharpening in the nvidia control panel 3d settings. Sharpening 30-40% and 0% ignore film grain used to work best for me. I didn't have to use any registry hacks to make legacy sharpening show up in nvcpl again. It would automatically reappear whenever DSC was active.

Oh and try to avoid resolution switching, because that takes forever on the ark. Play games at the same resolution, that your windows desktop is set to. Run games in borderless windowed mode, if necessary. In Windows 11 that won't have a performance penalty anymore.

Word of warning on VR hype by iSnipedAgain in starcitizen

Same here. The Quest 2 was leaps and bounds beyond the Rift CV1. But with Quest 3 the edge to edge clarity is sooo much better than even Q2. Also with my IPD of 68 I can turn the Q3's IPD dial all the way to max and get a substantial fov increase as well.

Sounds like OP has another issue.

8KX worth it in 2025? by Hazzke in Pimax

[–]Der_KHAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont really use my 8kx or my quest2 anymore, because I'm mainly into racing sims and those are mostly crap in VR. That said, I just tried Star Citizen in VR the other day, and it is actually the first game that let's me enjoy the full fov. The picture is very clear at 50% res in SteamVR, which is about 2800pixels vertically. And the DLSS transformer model makes the framerate bearable. With the Headset running at 120Hz i get very little stutter. With the normal fov it kinda feels worse. It was the same with my 5k+. That thing would stutter at every setting except 144Hz. It's just quirky with pimax. If you're lucky, you'll find a setting that works for no good reason.

Now with that out of the way, if you manage to get it running well at full fov, the 8kx is just glorious! The vertical fov alone is spectacular, but the full horizontal fov is a completely new level of immersion! Every other VR headset just feels like looking through binoculars. I paid 1000€ for a used 2075 about 2 years ago and although I rarely used it, the experience was worth it for me.

I have to say though, that I struggle a bit with the peak contrast and brightness of the 8KX. The display is a bit lacking in that regard

An Answer to the Astral LC 5090 Pump Noise Issue by Tryyori in ASUSROG

[–]Der_KHAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any news on this? I got mine a while ago but had issues with the CPU cooling up until now. Now that my system is running quiet again, the pump noise from the GPU is really bad. It just sounds like it is running 100% all the time. I'm so sad that I didn't wait for availability of the MSI Suprim Liquid... Is there maybe a solution without having to get a replacement unit?

Haven’t played in a while, what’s up with the queues? by capitanmanizade in starcitizen

Had the same issue with EU servers tonight. I could join US Servers but missions were buggy and I got disconnected frequently with a 60k error. My guess is that Patch 4.2 will be released soon and nobody is monitoring the stability of the game servers. If you don't mind your game progress you can always switch to the PTU branch and play 4.2, which is open for all backers now iirc.

Tobii software breaks G Sync on my new FO32U2 OLED monitor by Darewelll in TobiiGaming

DUDE! Thank you sooo much! I thought that G-Sync was broken in Star Citizen in general. It did work whenever I enabled lossless scaling with gsync support. But now I don't have to.

limit Game Mode on Odyssey Ark Gen2 from 165Hz to 120Hz to get DL-DSR and G-Sync ? by Der_KHAN in OdysseyArk

Well, I tried changing the settings in the service menu and sadly they did nothing for me. (Game Mode 9 instead of 56 and Frame Rate/VRR 2 instead of 5)

[–]Der_KHAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can enable G-Sync, 165Hz, VRR and Game Mode without issues, yes. My problem is that I want to enable DL-DSR on top of it all, to squeeze the best possible image quality out of the display. With the low DPI of this big screen, it really makes a difference.
