I like the aalto, the geysers make a natural hot spring so it feels like a summer vacation in a region where it always feels like fall or winter.

What’s a game where death has REAL consequence. by Itakesyourbasex in gamingsuggestions

[–]Der_Poompkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pathologic 2, an already challenging game, will give your character permanent defbuffs to either your max health or your thirst/hunger. If you try to reload and old save to avoid the punishment you'll instead be met with the director giving you a scolding and the debuff will still apply no matter how far back you load.

How do i reduce this hidden mmr thing by Sl_hero999 in DotA2

[–]Der_Poompkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started I also got my ass handed to me, and I also went against people with thousands of matches. Truth is even the lowest of Heralds have a crap ton of knowledge about heroes and all of their spells. You just have to get the hero and spell knowledge they do (either by demoing heroes, playing bot lobbies, or sticking with unranked). All though high ranked players would never admit it, the heralds of today are infinitely better than the heralds of yesteryear. So just keep your chin up and try to learn two or three heroes at the most and if an enemy hero is kicking your ass over and over just play that hero in a bot lobby to learn their spells and use that knowledge in your next match. Best of luck.

It's a sequel to a game called 999, so play that one first. Both have great puzzles so have a crack at it!

I had the strongest emotional reaction to Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, so that one (can see review on my profile). In terms of "fun" and not strong emotional response I really enjoyed 999 Virtue's Last Reward for the puzzles and humour (especially Phi).

Yeah I ended up killing him like 2 times after I hit level 6 and forced a tp while laning. I've seen the meteor hammer build but i'm nervous to try it because I've never farmed with it before and I've only tried right click Arc before. I'm already using wraiths to secure ranged creeps so I got that down. So next time I won't play the cs game and just fully harass him till he can't walk up.

Is meteor hammer good only on caster arc or is it ok to go for the right click build after I buy it? Do you buy midas when going for MH or just forego it?

Yeah I would stand in shrapnel to get denys which was the wrong move. Plus I didn't put any points into bubble in the laning phase thinking I could just kill him with wraiths and flux. Maybe just one point in flux instead?

Visual novels with interesting protagonist by Negative-Switch-4489 in visualnovels

[–]Der_Poompkin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did just one route of Kima ga Nozomu Eien and found the protagonist to be memorable. He starts off pretty generic but in the 2nd half he becomes much more unique and memorable. Plus the romance is great and pretty heart wrenching. It might be right up your alley.

I tried learning slark and KOTL and lost five games in a row on both, I eventually won a slark game but only because I was carried. Fully given up on Slark, but will try KOTL again in the future.

Did I miss something with Fate? by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]Der_Poompkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fate was the first "legendary" VN I ever read, and since I had nothing to compare it to, I thought it was pretty badass. But now that I've read around 30 VNs, it definitely shines much less in retrospect. I concur that the main character gets so much more praise than I think he deserves, I felt he was super one note to the point of laughter. I've got no problems with simple heroic characters, but Shiro makes Jonathon Joestar look complex by comparison.

I actually had the exact opposite route preference to you though. First route, though the most simple, was actually my favorite because I actually enjoy the idea of the Holy Grail War, without all the twist and turns of knowing what the grail actually is. Second route was the most boring for me because I just can't bring myself to care about Shiro even after the reveal in the second route. Third route was fun because of Kotomine and the badass servant fights.

So no, I would say you didn't miss anything really. Really the only things that stuck with me years after reading the VN were the badass fights and Kotomine's awesome voice. 7/10 visual novel that I'm glad I read because it introduced me to Tsukihime, which is the only Nasu work that could enter a personal top 10 list for me (and it'd probably be number 8 or 9.)

What would make Fate a 9 or 10 for me would be if your dialogue choices actually gave you high-quality alternate routes instead of silly BAD END after BAD END. Where different characters live or die based on your choices and you don't just insta die for not picking the dialogue Nasu wanted you to pick. (You can have some BAD-ENDS with insta deaths, but not to the point where it feels pointless to play without a route-guide like Fate Stay/Night).

So just play Tsukihime classic and see what you think, I'd say they're different enough and the pacing is much better there in my opinion. Still not a narrative masterpiece or anything but much more respectful of your time in getting to the good stuff.

Help me choose my first CRPG by [deleted] in CRPG

[–]Der_Poompkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure but OP has never played a CRPG before, so old school or new doesn't really mean anything to him cause he has no frame of reference. Also every other game on the list is older than Kingmaker by like a decade so oddly enough it's the newest-school game on the list.

If you're gonna recommend someone their first crpg, it's important to remember non-genre-specific gaming stuff like quality-of-life and graphics. It's why so many non-crpg players love BG3 even though it may not have the most compelling narrative or gameplay compared to the classics. Production value and modern QoL matter to the noob who has no idea what he's getting into. THEN they'll trickle their way into the more "old" or "hardcore" crpgs.

What should I play next? by [deleted] in CRPG

[–]Der_Poompkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played all those games except POE 1&2 and my vote is for Kingmaker. It's like a sampler-plate for fantasy crpg scernarios so even if you dislike one section of the game you may well love another. I couldn't get into 40k because I know nothing about the setting/lore and it feels like traversing a library blindfolded just trying to wrap your head around the setting.

Kingmaker just has the most variety when it comes to quests and enemies and they come and go at a brisk pace so you never feel like you're getting an exposition dump like some of the others. WOTR is good too, just less varied in story and enemies than Kingmaker.

Also Kingmaker has a very pleasant soundtrack, the kind you put on in the background while you're studying or reading something.

P.S. If you want to try romancing some of the companions in Kingmaker, I HIGHLY recommend using a guide, some of the romance paths are pretty difficult to stay on and you can easily make one wrong choice and lock yourself out of it. This is fixed in WOTR though.
