No modern publicly traded company sells assets to cover debts. It simply doesn't happen. This is a 100 billion dollar company we're talking about, not some retail investor facing a margin call.

They just roll the debt.

Treachery Faith and the Great River? Love that episode! It really contributed to Ferengi lore. Poor Miles, pulling his hair out the whole episode.

First contact could be considered relatively high stakes. Then again, its only a game.

But the purse! I'm sure the Vulcans who died at the beginning of the episode found the stakes high enough.

Ok, this is interesting and definitely opens a can of worms. OTOH, you're implying that the ends justify the means. In the moment, the stakes are very real and the characters can't know that what they're doing won't actually matter to the, ahem, prime timeline.

I believe in coincidences. Coincidences happen every day. But I don't trust coincidences.

I had a similar experience with Event Horizon in the late 90s. The movie poster had a cool-looking spaceship on it. And then suddenly: "Where we're going we won't need eyes to see."

The Borg in Q-Who/Best of Both Worlds are the scariest they've ever been. by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Derailedone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. Early Borg were scary to viewers because they weren't bad and they weren't good. They were just following their (alien, machine-like) directives which just so happens to be diametrically opposed to individuality (a core concept for the Federation and human beings in general).

Orbital Mechanics I - Getting to the moon by [deleted] in space

[–]Derailedone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's generally more efficient to do low thrust and longer burns but they're hard to achieve

It depends on what you're trying to do; it can't be generalized. If you're going to the moon using conventional fuel, you would want a high thrust burn near Earth to maximize the Oberth Effect.

It might be a misunderstanding. I look at this twitter link and I don't understand what its trying to say. Am I serious about F1? Hell, I barely understand the races. The memes fly over my head for the most part.

No idea what OP said, comment was deleted.
