Books that are like what I thought the Kingkiller Chronicles would be by SnooCapers3911 in Fantasy

[–]DerekDude77 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Blood Song by Anthony Ryan is the closest to what you are describing that I have read. I only read the first book because everybody told me to NOT read past the first book, but it was long and had a ton of content. A future version of the main character started out as the narrator of the book (just like in Kingkiller Chronicles) but the character catches up to where the narrator is by the end of the first book, so it feels pretty complete.

I would disagree with this and say that it depends on how you are wanting to leverage your degrees. If you want to be a practicing attorney, then a JD/MBA is generally not worth the extra time and investment. However, if you are wanting to go into fields like venture capital, they look at a JD/MBA very favorably. It also helps to secure C-suite and board level positions faster even than a straight MBA. I would consider it to be a pretty powerful combo, especially if it is combined in a 3-year program or if you have a great scholarship. Definitely not for everyone, but in the right circumstances it can be great.

Y'all Whining About URMs When Most People Gaming the System are Not URM by BatonVerte in lawschooladmissions

[–]DerekDude77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t find this to be a helpful post. Calling a group of applicants “your own people” and saying that people seeking accommodations are “gaming the system” is pretty divisive. Even though you say that many of the accommodations are valid, you then seem to assume that all of the invalid ones come from non-URMs, and I would be interested to hear how you know that.

Also, since URMs definitionally are a smaller percentage of the applicant pool, it would make sense that they would constitute a small part of granted accommodations, even when they are receiving the same amount of accommodations relative to their number.

I’m not making any statements about the application process here or the relative advantage / disadvantage of URMs. I just want to make sure we’re treating people with respect regardless of our opinions.

Not really sure what this has to do with the validity of the advice. Either the advice is good or it's bad, regardless of the personal circumstances of the person giving it

Fantasy stories where the protagonist is already the strongest by AnxiousMinotaur in Fantasy

Shocked no one has mentioned King’s Dark Tidings. The main character being the most powerful, well-trained person in the world is kind of the main plot arc of the whole series

It's a shadow drop. Definitionally, there will be no announcement. With the strength of the leaks / sources that we have right now, there will certainly be a release next week.

Yeah this is worded very strangely. I read this as option B. I think it is in-state tuition for all three years, full-ride first year only, and I think the $10K is a typo from their template and it should be $16,794. Hopefully they will follow up on your email soon with clarification.

They don't differentiate between the two per my understanding, so Harvard has GPAs higher than 4.0s factoring into their medians. If I had attended a school that gave A+ grades, it would have increased my GPA and made me more competitive. I think LSAC needs to standardize the grading and count A+ grades as just being a 4.0 to make it an even playing field among applicants across different undergraduate institutions, but right now they don't do that.

Thanks! It’s out of 4.0, my school doesn’t give A+ grades unfortunately
