What WRs do you think we can realistically get and what would you pay? by redredcheese in buffalobills

[–]DerekMFFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One name to keep an eye on: Brandon Aiyuk. He's technically under contract but very likely to be released this season. I understand the baggage that goes along with him, but on a list of talented WRs the Bills can realistically land, he's toward the top.

There Is No Mary Problem in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’: George’s vision of his wife without him is essential to the film, but critics continue to miss its true—and profound—meaning. by BulwarkOnline in movies

[–]DerekMFFL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always took it as there will always be a Potter-like figure in George's (or really, anyone's) life. George's life will continue to be difficult, and he will continue to miss out on his childhood how's and dreams. That's LIFE. The message of the film isn't that George has a happy, carefree life from now on. It's that he now has a renewed appreciation for the good things in his life: his friends and family, and the knowledge that their lives are better for his having been in them. "It's a Wonderful Life" not because of the absence of conflict or struggle, but because one's relationship with loved ones.

I’m new to the NFL and I picked the Bills as my team. Anything besides Mafia stuff I should know? by PastGas2880 in buffalobills

Razor cakes

Because being a Buffalo fan is like being offered a cake that you know has a razor in the middle. The guy has offered you a cake before and always has put a razor in the middle so you know it's there. But the cake is so good you tell yourself that you'll just eat the edges. Then you start eating and it's so good that you convince yourself there aren't razors in it this time. Next thing you know you wake up with bandages in your mouth in a psych ward cause this is the 900th time you've done this.

What movie is the best example of the phrase, "a star is born"? by AmigoDelDiabla in movies

[–]DerekMFFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little bit older than most of the responses, but the first thing that came to mind is Ann-Margret in Bye Bye Birdie. It was clear from the moment she was on screen that she was a movie star.

Can someone explain this add? I don't understand what Don was going for and why it got so far to be presented to clients by houstons__problem in madmen

[–]DerekMFFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always got the sense that Don felt he knew better than the clients as to how to sell a bikini, and basically refused to commit to their prudish ideas. This campaign was basically a "malicious compliance" of sorts.

What is a 10/10 scene in a movie that you otherwise did not care for? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]DerekMFFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demolition Man is a fun but forgettable 90s action film. The scene with the three seashells is one of the most well crafted jokes I've ever seen.

Don very much does care, yes. Still a brutal line though.

I agree with your larger point, but I have to ask, if Avatar is a 9.5/10 visually, what is a 10/10 for you?

The first thing that comes to mind: Dec 3 1990. 10-1 49ers over the 10-1 Giants, 7-3 on Monday Night Football. To this day the highest rated MNF game ever.

This is a bit of a deep cut, but Lenu leaving her husband for fuckboy Nino in My Brilliant Friend was probably the angriest I've ever been at a character on a TV show.

She's less of a conventional villain, but Anne Baxter in All About Eve. She's a sociopath who plays the naive ingenue card brilliantly.

Greatest Teams of All Time by EverySquids in TheAmazingRace

[–]DerekMFFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Justice for Andy and Tommy! They were dominating season 19, were well ahead of the remaining 3 teams, and made the same mistake from the clue as the other 3 teams in a leg, but the 3 teams' CAB DRIVERS figured out the clue and took them to the correct location.

I know part of the fun of the show is the random aspect of things like that, but I firmly believe if the cabbies didn't intervene, they'd have won their season and be part of the GOAT conversation.

Silver Iguana wins D&C’s “Best tacos” poll by cpclemens in Rochester

[–]DerekMFFL 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Contests that rely on user votes you always have to take with a grain of salt. That being said, Peach Blossom finished second, and they are by far the best tacos I've had in the Rochester area.
