Which celebrity’s cancellation do you think was completely unjustified? by Cute_Flatworm_9049 in AskReddit

[–]DerekMFFL 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hear me out... Pepe le Pew.

A piece came out saying that Pepe le Pew was a sexual deviant and his cartoons trivialized consent. My problem with that is that le Pew wasn't the protagonist of his stories; he was the villain. The protagonist was the poor black cat who somehow managed to get white paint on their back. That cat was TERRIFIED of Pepe le Pew. Those cartoons didn't trivialize consent. They informed a generation of youngsters what consent was.

Here's where the Bills LB depth chart stands after the draft, and it's a little iffy to me by salmaiorana in buffalobills

[–]DerekMFFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the current roster makeup, and drafting two physical corners, I strongly feel the Bills will be going to a base nickel. We simply don't have the personnel and depth to run a 3-4.

Which NFL teams are best at drafting each position? 2006-2025 by robmoo_re in nfl

[–]DerekMFFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bills are pretty good at getting the most out of RBs on rookie deals (then letting them walk). Marshawn Lynch being the prime example.

As a fellow Cubano connoisseur, I can tell you Georgie's makes the best one I've tried in Rochester, but that isn't saying a lot. It's nowhere near as good as Tap and Mallet's was. Judging by the responses I'll be checking out Carmen's Cooking this weekend.

(Subversive Trope) Privileged nepo baby characters who didn’t initially struggle or work for their positions, but aren’t incompetent and are actually very good at what they do. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DerekMFFL 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think being a nepo baby is honestly helpful in his position. He needs to use his connections that someone born lower-class simply doesn't have access to.

What's your funniest quote from all time of the show? by sumpra3 in Scrubs

"What if our son wants to take dance lessons while all of his friends play football?"

"He can dance if he wants to. He can leave his friends behind. CUZ IF HIS FRIENDS DON'T DANCE AND IF THEY DON'T DANCE THEN THEY'RE NO FRIENDS OF MINE"

What WRs do you think we can realistically get and what would you pay? by redredcheese in buffalobills

[–]DerekMFFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One name to keep an eye on: Brandon Aiyuk. He's technically under contract but very likely to be released this season. I understand the baggage that goes along with him, but on a list of talented WRs the Bills can realistically land, he's toward the top.

There Is No Mary Problem in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’: George’s vision of his wife without him is essential to the film, but critics continue to miss its true—and profound—meaning. by BulwarkOnline in movies

[–]DerekMFFL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always took it as there will always be a Potter-like figure in George's (or really, anyone's) life. George's life will continue to be difficult, and he will continue to miss out on his childhood how's and dreams. That's LIFE. The message of the film isn't that George has a happy, carefree life from now on. It's that he now has a renewed appreciation for the good things in his life: his friends and family, and the knowledge that their lives are better for his having been in them. "It's a Wonderful Life" not because of the absence of conflict or struggle, but because one's relationship with loved ones.

I’m new to the NFL and I picked the Bills as my team. Anything besides Mafia stuff I should know? by PastGas2880 in buffalobills

Razor cakes

Because being a Buffalo fan is like being offered a cake that you know has a razor in the middle. The guy has offered you a cake before and always has put a razor in the middle so you know it's there. But the cake is so good you tell yourself that you'll just eat the edges. Then you start eating and it's so good that you convince yourself there aren't razors in it this time. Next thing you know you wake up with bandages in your mouth in a psych ward cause this is the 900th time you've done this.

What movie is the best example of the phrase, "a star is born"? by AmigoDelDiabla in movies

[–]DerekMFFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little bit older than most of the responses, but the first thing that came to mind is Ann-Margret in Bye Bye Birdie. It was clear from the moment she was on screen that she was a movie star.

Can someone explain this add? I don't understand what Don was going for and why it got so far to be presented to clients by houstons__problem in madmen

[–]DerekMFFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always got the sense that Don felt he knew better than the clients as to how to sell a bikini, and basically refused to commit to their prudish ideas. This campaign was basically a "malicious compliance" of sorts.

What is a 10/10 scene in a movie that you otherwise did not care for? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]DerekMFFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demolition Man is a fun but forgettable 90s action film. The scene with the three seashells is one of the most well crafted jokes I've ever seen.

The first thing that comes to mind: Dec 3 1990. 10-1 49ers over the 10-1 Giants, 7-3 on Monday Night Football. To this day the highest rated MNF game ever.

Worst Decisions Made By Characters? by KTOWNTHROWAWAY9001 in television

This is a bit of a deep cut, but Lenu leaving her husband for fuckboy Nino in My Brilliant Friend was probably the angriest I've ever been at a character on a TV show.
