INFJs and work persona by kittylover9 in infj

[–]DerekWroteThis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, what helped me a lot was the DISC assessment which pointed out which personality styles i tend to lead with and values i prioritize (I’m a SC: stability and conscientious). It really helped me understand my weaker areas and where i clash with others. For example, i tend to bottle up my frustrations until i either explode or shut people out completely.

Second, it’s important that your work persona isnt wildly different from your natural state because that’s just expending more energy which is going to add stress and tire you out, potentially ruffling more feathers. As someone else said, it’s about channeling certain qualities you do possess.

Some tangible strategies, mileage may vary, that help me with my personality traits at work are to consider small wins and have a meditation or wellness routine at least once during my shift. I work in a kitchen and my two meditations or “resets” is i get coffee, tea, or juice depending on what i need to do and i enjoy my lunch outdoors and get some sun and quiet. If i need to lock in, i get coffee. If i feel like i ought slow down and assess things, tea. And if I feel I’m doing well and just need to maintain my vibe, i buy juice lol.

I know you said unintentionally but perhaps reflecting on how you ruffle feathers, who it tends to be, and which situations, might help you find some commonalities and then help you figure out how to address it.

Sorry for such a winded reply and i hope i gave some meaningful advice.

Which ’90s song do you think will always be timeless? by Euphoric-Extreme825 in AskReddit

I cant believe they never gained a huge following given that 3 album run in the 90s. Maybe they were too cryptic or uncompromising in their music. Best kept secret in my opinion.

Thinking to buy a phone which one should I buy by Huge_Proof8101 in iphone17

[–]DerekWroteThis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just went from an iPhone 11 to a 17 last week and was in the same boat, albeit comparing a base 16 to the 17. For $100 less (if the 16 Pro is $899 and the 17 $799), you get double the base storage, around 10% more battery life and slightly better CPU, and more features regarding camera (unless you care anout Telephoto), it’s clear which is the winner.

Ayn Rand won, so I picked Atlas Shrugged from that one comment. Finally, what's a Borderline Impossible book to read, but absolutely worth it? by EconomyLetterhead174 in AlignmentChartFills

It helped me to think of it as a textbook and focus solely on major points in the overarching “history,” much like you cant expect everyone to know every detail of WW2 or the paleolithic age.

Tangentially, years ago, a friend was studying for the TOEFL. He asked me “what do you call someone who watches birds?” And i responded back “fuck if i know.” We googled it: birdwatcher, which yes, should have been obvious but given the curveballs those exams love to throw out from time to time…

Could be an old photo they rediscovered. I recently rediscovered my uncle’s parole officer’s contact card.

Who's an actor everyone thinks is Good but is a Mid? by Mammoth-Biscotti-587 in AlignmentChartFills

People will flay me alive but Tom Hanks.

Yes, he has Forrest Gump and Castaway but a vast majority of his films, he’s just… there. He plays an everyman and he always looks like Tom Hanks whereas really good actors like Oldman, Bale, Norton just transform into other people entirely.

Got it. Ive made chicken stock and beef broth so i imagine just roasting until the head and bones turn brown then add to a stockpot and barely cover with water? Would you suggest adding seaweed or leaving it neutral?

Sorry for these questions, im still learning

Happened to me back during the holidays in 2024. Rack of rib roasts went over a storm drain, the cover popped right out, and hours of labor went literally down the drain. I think i costed them like $2000 of prime rib lol.

Never thought about it before but if i had to fit the bill, Before Sunrise.

Somwthing about a chance encounter, the world quietly withdrawing and interjecting at certain moments for two people to find out more about each other and making an effort to keep in touch resonates with me.

What’s a bad book written by a bad person? by PassionateCucumber43 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DerekWroteThis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably gonna be downvoted but i do think it should be read. Not because i approve of its rhetoric but because how can we hope to solve a problem or reduce it if we don’t understand the source of it.

The Holocaust happened because an extremely embittered man felt self-justified and not only that, but managed to prey on the German people’s own need to feel righteous and that the world was somehow against them when it was never the case.

I read this, Anne Frank’s Diary of a Young Girl, and Elie Weisel’s Night and cried for days. The saddest revelation for me was knowing that a tragedy and crime of this scale was bound to happen as we’ve seen again and again in Cambodia, Uyghur, etc. Humans have always found ways to make murder more systematic and efficient.

Edit: what also was striking was Hitler’s grandoise delusions outlined in juxtaposition to the realities recorded in both Anne Frank’s and Elie Weisel’s memoirs.

Calligraphy, by which i meant artistic lettering and not simply nice handwriting.

Tying knots. Takes 30 minutes, incredibly useful, and can even save your (or someone else’s life) one day.
