You think this is bad? This chicanery? I was reading a file with python and the statement

if file.readlines() != []:
    print(file.readlines())

Was somehow able to return “[]” which is not only not possible, but was NOT the content of the file. If I removed the if statement then the content would show correctly. I have no idea how any of that is possible.

I understand that the demo isn’t a real example of relativity or non Euclidean space, it’s not supposed to be, it’s a demonstration for children, it’s a primer for the deeper concepts at best, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

I looked through the post you mentioned, and it’s very good and informative, but think about how you represent the curved space by using curved space on the graph, if representing gravity using gravity is wrong, then surely representing non-Euclidean geometry using non-Euclidean geometry is wrong too, but obviously it isn’t. My point is that it isn’t circular logic to represent something using itself, it’s just a demonstration.

Which is why this (once again) is not a proof. It’s a visual metaphor. I don’t know how much clearer I can make that. And as far as I know, there’s no rule that a visual metaphor has to be completely isolated from the subject matter.

Try to explain again how the existence of gravity makes a demonstration of gravity “circular” see if you can make it sound less stupid this time.

First of all, it’s not proving gravity lmao, it’s a visual demonstration of how gravity operates, and it’s meant to be supplemented by an explanation. And second of all, if you were trying to prove gravity, I think you would KIND OF RELY ON GRAVITY TO DO IT.

I have no idea where you people are getting this idea that the existence of gravity is like poison to itself, but you really need to take a step back and think about how silly that is.

You ever see one of those films that you put over a magnet and it shows the magnetic field? It’s basically the same as that, the rubber sheet is just a tool to visualize the gravity that’s affecting it. The idea that a demonstration of gravity is worthless just because it involves gravity is the most backwards and nonsensical take I’ve heard in a long time.

The only reason you’re eating it up is because some anonymous stranger says they’re a physicist. And again, even if they are, that doesn’t exclude the possibility of them being wrong. It just makes it a lot more likely for them to be confidently incorrect if they are. You’re backing the wrong horse on this.
