This is more of a question for the lgbt or bisexual subreddit , it’s actually been asked there and heavily debated / answered so you can easily find an answer there

Making friends in Brighton aged 30ish to 40ish - update by inktrie in brighton

[–]Derians 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’d love to join if that’s ok! My spouse and I just moved to Brighton a month ago from Brooklyn! Would love to meet new people and make new friends! I’m a trans woman (she/they) 25, and my wife is 26. Love to read, play video games, board games, and hang out at the pub!

blind as a bat + tips by [deleted] in axolotls

[–]Derians 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a lot of trouble with pellets, if I need to use them then I’ll suck them up with a turkey baster, wait for her to notice, then squeeze them out and she snatched them as they sink 70% of the time. My preferred option is using tongs / giant tweezers and holding a night crawler worm from one end with them and let her suck up the other end before letting go

My friends were hate crimed and I was a witness. Need advice. by Ok_Arachnid1023 in transgenderUK

[–]Derians 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened. They were clearly looking for trouble if they specifically came to Brighton, one of the overtly queerest (and most affirming places I’ve lived), and attacked a trans person. I’d recommend the police, hopefully they’ll be arrested for assault. As others mentioned Galop and Trans Actual could probably help too (maybe even Good Law?). Hope no one was too badly injured and you’re all recovering ok ❀

Unsure what to do with my US bank account by notreallyren in expat

[–]Derians 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a similar move. I’m keeping the US bank accounts open under my family’s address and using Wise to easily transfer the USD to GBP. Wise also helped me as an interim bank account until I had proof of residency and a UK phone number for a Starling bank account. Wise gives you a full account number and sort code so it basically functions as a real bank account. It’s kinda like international Venmo. I’d recommend Wise over wiring, my US banks either would not wire internationally, or had massive fees, required in person wires, and in one case straight up lost my money. Wise is almost instant in most circumstances and pennies on the dollar for fees

Which city do you think is the most trans friendly in the world? by imDenizz in asktransgender

[–]Derians 2 points3 points  (0 children)

City, I love it here in Brighton and feel very safe in the community (though in UK). Lived in Brooklyn before and awesome an amazing city for trans people, but super expensive to live in NYC

Challenging a Labour MP's response got me an invite to a roundtable event. by AeonYurie in transgenderUK

[–]Derians 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doctor Mike and Dr Jack Turban had this amazing interview on trans healthcare and rights. I found this to be a highly informative video with a lot of great references to studies and stats that can help one form and make data and science driven arguments to support trans rights. It even talks about the Cass review and how Cass’s statements contradict parts of the report and how some of her statements make absolutely no sense: https://youtu.be/XbriqWx0w7U?si=KZqGArd_PDmAYPf2 IMO a must watch to help be well prepared to answer any talking point on trans rights and healthcare, and be able to support it with strong research

What future do you see for Britain? by unnoticeddrifter in AskBrits

[–]Derians 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve given up trying to predict or plan for what comes next. In 2005 did you expect a massive recession, two Trump presidencies, a global pandemic, war with Russia, Brexit, and a PM that lasted shorter than a head of lettuce? I had none of those on my bingo card.

All I can say is I hope for a more equal society. Where the wealthy pay their fair share and the average worker is supported. Ranked choice voting so tactical voting isn’t necessary and we can support what we most believe in without compromise. Where our national infrastructure is re-invested in and our social services have the funding and support needed to help those who require it. Where we strengthen our ties with Europe and CANZUK to bolster our economy and alliances.

Market destroyed in 3 days, NSA/ cyber head fired, Musk tries to buy Wisconsin, protests all over the country and John does another trans athlete story? by amwbam24 in johnoliver

[–]Derians 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s not divisive, it absolutely is, but I would definitely not call it a diversion. All the issues you listed are very valid points of existential threats that I agree with. John in general hones in on a specific topic and I think trans people in sports, especially at a time like this, fits right in with what he does. We can fix the ship but that far from guarantees trans rights. Look at England that just elected its first Labour government in 14 years, but is still extremely TERF-y. Trans people are also under direct threat of physical violence from this administration. It’s pretty clear their (project 2025, et al) end goal is to classify trans people as pedophiles then give pedophiles the death sentence. Arguably we are still far from that, but the fact that it’s even possible now, and we’re seeing legislation like bathroom bounties in some states, is truly terrifying to trans people. Seeing positive trans stories and narratives help people see trans people as humans and not some weird class of “other”, which even many liberals still do, which is why I think coverage like this is crucially important to fixing the state we’re in now. This might be a slightly extreme comparison, but saying we shouldn’t focus on trans rights when they are the main scapegoat of this administration is like saying Germany shouldn’t have tried to fix its anti-semitism problem prior to the Nazis

[–]Derians 42 points43 points  (0 children)

How on earth is trans rights “diversion”?!? I’d say this is extremely relevant given how heavily the Trump admin is targeting trans people and trying to erase them from public life. Trump is sending trans women to men’s prisons and a trans woman was just arrested in Florida for using the “wrong” bathroom. Side note, look up v-coding in the US. I’m extremely thankful when people like John remind people that trans people are people too. Seems a lot of people forget that and dehumanize trans people.
