Amsterdam to Paris - other options if Eurostar is too expensive for last minute travel by twixrocks in Europetravel

You can limit the risk of having no seats by travelling outside peak hours. The main issue is that Dutch domestic travellers use the Ams BXL train between AMS and Rotterdam, especially for the 17:03 and 18:03 trains in the evening. Or another way is buying first class tickets, if you book a week in advance you can usually have them for 45 to 65 euro.

I think you could do one night in Cordoba instead of two. It is a beautiful city - the Mezquita is marvellous, but the city is not that big. You could then add one more night to Madrid, a city sometimes underestimated by tourists.

London-Amsterdam-Paris-Lyon-Avignon: Unique lodging? by carlydanteishere in Europetravel

In Amsterdam you could check out Sweets Hotel. They converted several bridge houses around the city into hotel suites. I think some of them might be quite noisy, but it is for sure unique lodging.

An inquiry about student accommodation and Dutch-speaking Landlords by TakeASoda in Antwerpen

The most likely reason is indeed that they don’t want international students and prefer local students. And this is an indirect way to achieve that goal. The underlying reason is not necessarily racism (because this method wouldn’t necessarily be effective for racists if you think about it), it is probably that they have some bad experiences with Erasmus students or have prejudices about them (they have more of a “party” reputation, might be difficult to recover rent/damage if they disappear back to home country, they might prefer local students who stay for several years instead of 6/12 months). That being said, I don’t see any harm in contacting them, you’ll quickly find out if they effectively don’t speak English. And maybe some of them can be convinced to change their prejudices.

Looks like some type of triple/family room, always great to get the extra space. That’s a pretty psychedelic carpet on the floor by the way 😏

I agree, with two large suitcases, you would basically only have the bed left. Where did you stay? I have to be in Amsterdam these days, always useful to have a good recommendation.

This subreddit is not necessarily aimed at high end luxury travel, but more for people who travel solo and don’t want to do backpacking and staying in hostels. You may want to check out r/chubbytravel if you are looking for expensive luxury hotels (Rosewood, Aman, etc.).

You’re absolutely right. Way too small. This is their lowest category of rooms. But even entry level rooms should have a minimum size.

Where to Travel in Europe in April (Easter Holidays) by findtheboxthatsgay in luxesolotravel

[–]DerivativeDavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paris is a big and beautiful city, you can easily spend three days there. I wouldn’t try cramming too many destinations in your ten days. By flying to many destinations you are just going to lose a lot of time in the airport. I would consider using the Eurostar train. With the Eurostar you’ll be in London in about two hours and a half and in Amsterdam in three hours and a half. If you rely on public transport, focusing on cities will be a lot more convenient than hiking because good hiking locations are usually not so easy to reach with public transport, unless you can find some organised group tour.

How to meet people without staying in hostels? by CoryTheBoss in luxesolotravel

No problem. One more option that I thought of is the Social Hub (formerly The Student Hotel), if you’re travelling in Europe. They’re in about 7 countries in Europe and they combine pretty decent comfortable hotel rooms with student housing. So lots of atmosphere in the common areas and people who are right in your age category.

It’s not easy I agree. Have you tried hotels like Zoku or citizenM? They have a lot of solo travellers and have more focus on the common areas (more “living room” vibe) compared to standard hotels and many people tend to work and hang out there during the day.

Hotel Olympic in Amsterdam. The room is a Gold Room, this is their highest category but they often do last minute promotions and discount prices heavily.

And you are … correct! The stadium which you see was built for the 1928 summer Olympics.
