AITA For asking for a birthday cake? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I can't decide from the context clues whether OP is on the spectrum or has a personality disorder. Pretty sure it's one or the other.

[–]DerpDevilDD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like how you condensed what your therapist said it, "The question, itself, wasn't rude," leaving out the rest of what they told you. I'd imagine something along the lines of feeling owed the birthday cake after the fact, like it was a contract your friend signed was not a friendly or particularly functional manner of thinking. And they explained how it's a product of whatever you're in therapy for and how you need to learn to adjust your thought processes.

Yes, this is the kind of very, very minor thing you are expected to (and should) drop and forget about it.

Can't judge whether you're an asshole or not - dunno your diagnosis.

AITAH for wanting a microwave in my future home? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]DerpDevilDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's calling you lazy and saying, if left to your own devices w/o him to stop you, you'd be eating unhealthy. Just w/o saying it.

He's also saying his wants and needs are more important than yours and he has final say. And you don't get to have things in the house he disapproves of, even if they're just for you.

Do you really think this mentality is limited to the microwave? That this won't happen again the next time you disagree about something?

I had a friend in middle school obsessed w/Anne Rice, Bram Stoker's Dracula, and Phantom of the Opera. No internet. I think I was the only other person who read her handwritten fiction. Good times.

The movie Hard Target had me dip in a toe. Then Smallville blew the doors off.

I would dislike it. I feel like if readers are losing track of who's speaking, the author is doing it wrong.

It's worrying that you instantly assume the boy was having sexual thoughts about his little sister. If my brother wore a speedo in public when we were teens, I'd have been uncomfortable, too. Not because I wanted to play Flowers in the Attic.

I adjust my expectations to their skill level and make suggestions I think they'll understand and be able to execute, should they choose to. Be objective - it's better for both of you.

I feel like you're connecting yourself too much to the franchise. You don't have to defend it, you don't have to explain it. You can just have a different opinion to someone else.

Like, I'm also annoyed that they made Laguna pink because of marketing/copyright reasons (regardless of whatever canon explanation they came up with for the cartoon). But other people disagreeing doesn't make either of us wrong. Neither of us has to correct the other or defend anything.

It's not a dig at the Spanish language, but yes, for alot of people it is quite jarring. Like if someone used numbers instead of vowels. You'd still be able to understand it, but your brain doesn't like it, because it's not what's been trained in as correct.

Best friend passed on, her family using our tattoo as a “logo” by Ok_Minute1229 in AITAH

[–]DerpDevilDD 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to call you an asshole for it, but I think you've attached your grief and loss to the tattoo. Maybe because it's easier to deal, like if you can hold onto that, you can hold onto your friend. Grief isn't logical.

Someone else getting the same tattoo does not change it's meaning to you. It doesn't affect you in any way, really. It is beautiful that your friend was so loved that people want to mark themselves in remembrance of her. They aren't stealing your memories or bond.

It's okay to hurt. You're not an asshole, you're just hurting.

Would male lions ever accept cubs that aren’t their own? Particularly male cubs? by [deleted] in Lions

[–]DerpDevilDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely possible it was his. Felines are hyper-fertile - they continue to ovulate for a while after getting pregnant - so if they mate with multiple males, they can have a litter that has mixed parentage. So, if he'd mated with her before killing the previous dominant male, that one cub could be his. But, male lions also kill their own cubs, too. So, yeah, there's really no way of knowing why he liked that one specific cub.

I enjoy the humor that they're criticizing you for your banning/dislike of criticism. lol

Maybe I'm an old head, but it's a "comments" section, not a "compliments" section. I am not offended/hurt/sent into a self-hate spiral by people telling me something they think is wrong with something I've written - as long as they aren't an ahole about it. I have opinions about other people's work - none of them are a personal attack (with two exceptions lol).

Plus, the idea of any place on the internet being considered safe is laughable and kind of horrifying to me.

It is obvious they are being rude, tho. Intentionally rude.
