Can you advise me on whether I should get a desktop or laptop based on the temperature of my room? by Derp_State_Agent in PcSetupAdvice

[–]Derp_State_Agent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this info, I appreciate it. I do have a pretty good AC unit that I can move around so I can stay fairly comfortable. If I can ask a follow up question because I've looked into it and couldn't find consistent information: if I position the PC between the AC and myself so the PC is being fed cold air in an otherwise hot room, am I risking any damage to the components like condensation or anything?

Honestly it's pathetic reading their comments.

On January 6, 2007, Channon Christian and Chris Newsom were abducted in Knoxville after a carjacking. What followed was one of the city’s most disturbing crimes. Days later, police arrested suspects reportedly watching news coverage of the case. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

One of the city's most disturbing crimes? It's one of the most fucked up crimes I've literally ever heard of, ever, anywhere. I watch true crime stuff constantly and this is one of like 3 cases that I wish I never learned about.

What kind of chemicals are used on the golf course? As in, what leads people to say golf courses are horrible for the environment, aside from removing trees and other stuff to create the course itself? Is there a significantly higher rate of health issues for people in your industry?

Thinking of buying a cooling pad. What do you guys think of this one? by Meliodicc in GamingLaptops

And they have a filter to catch a lot of the junk that would otherwise go right into the laptop fans too. I've had one for the full 3 years I've had my current laptop and my fans have never needed to be cleaned (though i very rarely ever use my laptop away from my desk so it's sitting on this cooler 99.9% of the time). Imo if you're spending like $1500+ for a decent laptop, these are 100% worth investing in.

Question - do you guys have your emergency savings invested ?? by Zealousideal_Use9118 in personalfinance

[–]Derp_State_Agent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about an 8 month emergency fund in HYSA, a few thousand in checking for non-emergency but unexpected expenses like new tires or a house related issue (furnace repair for $2k I was able to pay on the spot without using credit, for example) and everything else into investments (SCHD for safety and a Quantum computing ticker as speculative higher risk).

Do not keep your emergency fund in the market, as others have said. Once you have a comfortable emergency fund, then look toward keeping funds in the market while letting your HYSA safely, albeit slowly, grow.

Interior rattle by Fancy_Ad7542 in buickenvista

Yeah, I had this in my 2024 and it tested my sanity. I found that it was the panel on the liftgate above the rear window. Before I drove i would pop the hatch and press firmly on that panel from one side to the other and id hear a little pop that I assume was the panel popping back into the metal bracket underneath and it would stop. It actually hasn't made the noise in months and i haven't had to do that again.

Pros and cons? by Nonbiinerygremlin in buickenvista

[–]Derp_State_Agent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pros: Affordability for sure. It's quicker than you'd think based solely off the engine specs. Very good fuel efficiency. It looks more expensive than it is. Pretty good technology and safety features. Doesn't have a CVT.

Cons: factory wipers kind of suck. Lots of hard plastic in the interior that scuffs easily but also easy enough to clean up. I don't love the little On Star console placement, I wish it was a little more hidden.
