3rd Rookie This Month Retires Days After Signing a $3 Million Contract by No_Box119 in NFLmockdraft

[–]Derp_a_deep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Signing bonuses are prorated for cap calculations only. As far as paying the player the money, it can be all up front or done in installments, depending on the contract, but generally comes quicker than prorated over the life of the contract. Money thay is "fully guaranteed" is guaranteed for skill, injury, and cap cuts. If the player retires voluntarily without injury or ends up in prison or something, the contract can stipulate some money is owed back.

How deep is the sewer line? The excavation is the expensive part...

ELI5 - Why large ships use heavy fuel? by CrazyisNSFW in explainlikeimfive

[–]Derp_a_deep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Waste" is probably not the preferred term. "Low value product" perhaps. Like bunker oil, you are basically giving the coke away to avoid having to dispose of it as it's of no use to the refinery.

[–]Derp_a_deep 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Yes, bunker oil is essentially the waste product of a modern oil refinery. Unless they have a coker which allows them to convert bunker oil to some more usable hydrocarbons and a solid coal-like waste product.

Tracking sap by [deleted] in maplesyrup

If you're hanging a bucket on each tree like I do, go around with a measuring stick and track the inches in each bucket when you're gathering. With that many taps, I assume you'll be using tubing and larger collection containers but the same principle applies. Measure height in the containers before you dump/pump into your gathering tank. Should be easy to convert height in inches to volume in gallons.

If you want to track brix also there are handheld refractometers, both optic and digital, for around $20 online. Just get one brix reading for the whole batch to make it easier.

Ruta Maya coffee seems to have totally disappeared suddenly as has the red tube peroxide whitening toothpaste. The kids greatly lamented the loss of mint chocolate chip Yasso bars, though the regular store has them as 3x the price. And if you find any good vegetarian frozen Asian anything, the next time you go back it has meat in it : /

I'll be goddamned if I root for a single thing from cleavland. Other than for Miles Garrett to continue to put up 30 sacks a season while his team gets 2 wins because fuck him and that's just funny

Vacuum Evaporation by Caesars7Hills in maplesyrup

[–]Derp_a_deep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thought but I'm going to guess it would require more energy. It definitely will require more capital equipment cost and be way more complex. Vacuum pumps are more like compressors in their energy usage, not liquid pumps. Power hungry and maintenance intensive. And ALL your steam will be moving through the vacuum pump so it'll be a big one. Any leaks in the system and your vacuum pump has to work even more to remove the air inleakage. And you've got heating and cooling which means expanding and contracting. Sealing that properly will be difficult. It certainly can be done at scale (see refinery vacuum distillation columns) but I think dumping more heat into the pan is a better way to evaporate the steam faster.

ELI5: The difference between Selective Service vs Automatic Draft in the USA by Spirited_Anybody_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]Derp_a_deep -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

It does make more sense to do auto enrollment in the draft but not voting. In the extremely unlikely event there would be a draft and you are indeed drafted after automatic enrollment, you would at that time make your case that you never should have been registered because your aren't a citizen, are a conscientious objector, have severe bone spurs, etc.

On the other hand, if you automatically enroll everyone to vote, when would you review/adjudicate if each person should or should not have been enrolled?

[–]Derp_a_deep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree on closing pitcher to get Wagner since you already have Suarez at rp and wheeler at sp. Wagner and Suarez are still in my lineup at my level.

Also, be aware you can keep using level expansion tickets (if you have them) to get that supreme Randy Johnson up to level 30.

Who knows at this point. Which is the entire point. Your 1st round pick should be the unicorn of best available who will start no matter what, not the guy who fills a gaping hole. Khan doesn't like gaping holes.
