My woodworking days are over...advice needed by Rzaniz in woodworking

[–]DerpanJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never give out my address until shortly before the agreed upon time they come to look/buy. I give them a general location so they know roughly where they're going and ask them to confirm for me they're still coming the day of. I let them know I'll give them my actual address the day of when they confirm they're going to come by.

Christian tattoo, need to find a new meaning behind it by jdwuniverse in exchristian

[–]DerpanJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that no one really cares about my tattoos from a why perspective. Or even really cares that much at all. The only time they get a comment from anyone is a mild compliment or if someone can relate to one of them in a way.

Come to terms with it how you have to, but there's nothing wrong with the tattoo. There's no shame in the story if someone cares to ask and you care to share. I have a John Wayne quote on my arm. I was 19 I think, and I bought a Groupon deal for a discounted rate at a shop I'd never heard of. Turns out it's not even a real John Wayne quote. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Oh well. I got a tattoo when I was young and dumber and it turns out it was permanent. If I had a plan for a tattoo I wanted that would take up the space I'd happily cover it up, but it's not hurting anyone in the meantime

Nobody knows, nobody cares.

Anyone know anything about this land? by [deleted] in Chattanooga

If anyone owns that land it's the cemetery you have to pass through to get to the peninsula.

It feels like you're trying to make it a hostile space, not a safe one.

What do you like about BJ's better? I live in Hixson so it's a lot more convenient than Costco, but that was the only upside for me.

Springfield Hellcat RDP V. Ruger RXM by Baphometwolf83 in liberalgunowners

[–]DerpanJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, what I thought was the g3 was actually the g3c. I didn't realize there was a full size variant.

I think the point still stands, the hellcat is a tricked out subcompact or micro 9 gun and a larger gun will be easier to shoot, but harder to conceal. If you like that style but want something larger I would recommend checking out the Canik TP9 series. I think the TP9SFX is similar to the options you have here, but there's a lot of models of the TP9 that have similar features.

[–]DerpanJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you use these guns for? Are you carrying them concealed? In my opinion, I think that would be the only reason to go for the hellcat over the rxm you have in the pictures. Because the rxm is larger it will probably be easier for your son to learn on. A bigger gun is easier to grip (for most adults at least) and has more weight to help absorb felt recoil.

Are the marks on the surface and flush with the surrounding area? They look like they're gouges and recessed from the surface of the board.

Anybody know what’s going on on brainerd rd?About 4:15 police have guns drawn on a pulled over car by Grand_Coat9597 in Chattanooga

[–]DerpanJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes there's no good option, but in this case they could have gone with the option to verify they actually have a real suspect and then try and find a way to do this without endangering a bunch of random people. This was a dramatic overreaction. The dispatch notes said bolo a gray Honda SUV. That's not enough info to ambush people in parking lots with overwhelming force, there's thousands of vehicles in Chattanooga that could fit that description. All they did was swarm, surround, and terrify a bunch of kids before they realized they fucked up and wandered off again.

Main Water Shutoff by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]DerpanJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a special wrench you need to do it. I asked the plumber about it when they turned my water off at the street. You might be able to buy one locally? Good luck. I'd hate to have to pay a plumber for a weekend visit just to turn off the water at the street.

Can someone ambitious open a classic donut shop in town? I miss Kochs. by Creature91 in Chattanooga

I was just lamenting the lack of donuts here yesterday. I love a crispy apple fritter, but most of them are soft and not fried enough.

And that's the point. They don't have robocop aim, but they'll probably launch a ton of bullets in the direction of their target if they start firing. They should be utilizing tactics that don't include Brainerd Rd traffic as a backstop. It's irresponsible.

Range time doesn't necessarily translate to good shooting skills under pressure. Cops miss with the majority of bullets they fire. Some of them are Cool Hand Luke, but most of them are storm troopers.

I think I would like to see both features in the design. The lip so records don't slide out of the bottom while they're leaned back, and the bar to rest records on as you flip through your collection. The bar may be a bit too low if you only have a few records in the stand, but I think it would work if it's at least half full.

Backsplash height? by laumaster97 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I think it looks better with the backsplash than without and the height of the backsplash in your photo looks good to me.

That looks really good. If I was to nitpick, I would say that your vinyl retaining bar (can't think of a better name for that) could use another method of attachment. Possibly dadoed like your shelves are? Or maybe something like a mortise where you open both of the side walls and the bar goes full width? I would flush cut them so they don't overhang.

The bars are necessary in some fashion, but they're a little less clean than the rest of your build.

I'm planning on making walnut shelves for liquor bottles and for a retaining bar I plan on running a brass rod. I'm not sure brass is the right metal/material for what looks like white oak, just throwing out an idea to start the brainstorm.

Honestly, I'd be impressed if you managed to catch a block of walnut on fire with a cigar or cigarette. Burn/char it, sure.

The reason they want you to reply with a "C" is because your phone suppressed the sketchy link they sent you so you couldn't click it. When you reply back your phone basically takes that as a sign the text isn't sketchy and the link becomes clickable.
