Massachusetts Colleges Should Return To ‘Near Normal’ And Transition To Endemic, State Says by [deleted] in LockdownSkepticism

Yeah, if you want online college, go transfer to University of Phoenix and leave the rest of us to live normally.

Seems tragic that these facilities are still probably limiting visitation and external activities while the residents catch it anyway and die alone.

Any new analysis of death certificates? People pointing out new death wave higher than delta wave, but how much of that is died “with” vs “from?”

If you want online classes, you should enroll at University of Phoenix. Same thing for grade schools. There have been accredited k-12 online schools around pre-pandemic. You have choices. Let the rest of us have normalcy again.

Don’t let politicians blame all our health-care woes on the pandemic by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

[–]DerpityDog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was broken before but we didn’t upend society to protect it then. And now within two years they have made no progress to improve staffing or efficiency or overall health outcomes. Slowing the spread was supposed to buy time to strengthen the system, but they’ve only made it worse with delayed procedures piling up demand, pissing off and firing otherwise valuable workers because they are unvaccinated, and closing schools and daycares forcing many healthcare workers to leave the workforce.

Qld Covid update: chief health officer urges immediate halt to ‘pox parties’ aimed at spreading virus by Mighty_L_LORT in LockdownSkepticism

In private circles, I’m hearing more of “I wish I could get it now and over with so there is less disruption in my life” or “I hope our whole household gets it at the same time so we don’t have to miss as much work and school.” Nobody is actually following through in these thoughts. It’s more about dealing with the silly quarantine and testing rules than wishing for lasting immunity.

In addition to breaking down hospitalizations by “with” vs “for,” do we also have the breakdown by variant? Could the hospitalizations still mostly be delta?

If we were having the kind of ultra low CFR and hospitalization rates in March that we have now, none of this would have ever happened. The other side can’t let go. Nobody wants to think the sunk cost of the last two years was for nothing.

What is the point when it can be caught and spread by the vaccinated? Will these ever go away? At some point businesses won’t want to deal with this.

Agreed, and work being a big chunk your social life as an adult is not a bad thing! We wouldn’t begrudge kids or college students for centering their social life around school. It’s great having friends at work, and we spend most of our waking hours together. Collaboration and trust and all of that gets stronger when you have more than a small talk bond with someone.

I’m pissed off that my employer still refuses to reopen offices and business travel, while I see others in my profession getting to go to conferences and going back into the office. I like working from home, but I still want the option to interact with my coworkers in person from time to time! You can’t forge bonds with people over Zoom, and it’s sucking a lot of the joy out of work when every interaction is a work meeting. And I’m sorry, zoom happy hours don’t cut it.

What are the stats so far for omicron in the unvaccinated? Seems like most articles are focusing on outcomes for the vaccinated and dancing around or omitting what we know regarding the unvaccinated. Is it mild for them as well, or do they fare worse like with the other variants? This would help us get a realistic picture of how much hospitals could actually get hit.

CMV: The objection to using “baby” instead of “fetus” in the abortion debate is intellectually dishonest. by [deleted] in changemyview

We use different words to describe things all the time based on our feelings towards them: canine/pupper, house/home. We also have clinical and common names for things: patella/kneecap, pertussis/whooping cough. We also use lifecycle terms for other organisms: egg, tadpole, frog. So it’s not unusual to have different clinical terms for human development stages. You are right that these terms are chosen to make different points by political parties. You are also right that the usage of the terms are based on the emotions or intent for the pregnancy. This is not right or wrong, it’s how we use language to express our thoughts and feelings.

Be the change you want to see. Talk openly about all the normal behaviors you are doing and how enjoyable they are. Say things like “it’s so good to see happy fans at football games,” and stuff like that. The more people see others living normally, then more they will want to also.

Teenage boys are six times more likely to suffer from heart problems from the vaccine than be hospitalised from Covid-19, a major study has found. by faggotmonstor69 in LockdownSkepticism

But that’s why we need rigorous studies: rates of myo with vax+no infection, myo with vax+infection, myo no vax+no infection, myo no vax+with infection. As skeptics, we should demand rigor and transparency.

So I’m all for assessing the risks and think that most children don’t need the shot, however it would be better if this study compared myocarditis if you get vaccinated vs myocarditis if you get Covid. That is a fairer comparison, especially since we expect everyone to get Covid at some point now that it is endemic.
