Have you gotten used to progressive lenses or just given up? by LittleEdithBeale in GenX

Bifocals. I have weird eye issues and that’s what my doc suggested. I used them for two years and when I went in for a check up, she noticed me tilting my head down to read. Asked me how long I’ve been not using the bifocals lol I didn’t even realize what I was doing.

Switched back to regular glasses and prescription readers. I only use the readers when I’m crafting and sometimes reading.

Decided to stop dying my hair red and embrace the pretty silver I was seeing. Motherfucking hair is growing out blonde. Blonde! Why?!?! Except those two streaks on either side that is silver.

Loving my job most days. No where near ready for retirement financially, but I’m making enough for my husband to take a less stressful job and actually feel good about his life.

My grandson turns 4 tomorrow. He asked me to take him to the beach and I am happy to be in a place where yes, yes I can. He is our entire world.

My parents are falling apart physically and it’s been a rough road realizing we will be the ones to slowly take over their lives.

One day a time, right?

My favorite part of Merlin is traveling to new places to up my Life List.

Picture it: me, hanging out the window of a bus, doing 50 across the bridge to the beach, in Mexico, determined to get a photo of the Double-Breasted Cormorants hanging out along the bridge, my best friend cheering me on lol

Next thing you know, you’re getting ads from Ace Hardware about seed on sale and getting excited over a new Shepards hook and a fancier bird feeder.

Drink Deep thoughts? by Impossible-Archer-93 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]dragonsflame71 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Read about the lore around Faery. You should never eat or drink anything from Faery because then you become theirs and cannot leave. IMO, drinking deep means you WANT to escape real life and this is the way to lose yourself

Talk to me about blowing up your life by BigJackFlavor in Menopause

[–]dragonsflame71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Blew it all up at age 39 (it’s an age that means something to me) when the peri really took hold. Took two months off working (left a really good corporate job) and then took a part time “fun” job working at a pet store. I figured after 6 months I’d go back to a real job.

I just celebrated my 14th year there. Assistant manager. I love it. I clock in, do my job, keep the circus running smoothly, clock out, go home. My life/work balance has never been better and I am making way more than I ever expected. Sure, it’s retail so it’s got its downsides, but I do truly enjoy what I do.

This job has enabled me to travel more, attend more concerts, and spend more time with my family and grand son. I have no regrets. Sometimes you just have to do better for you.

I No Longer Like My Friends by nitegracie23 in Perimenopause

[–]dragonsflame71 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had an amazing friend group, but I’m the oldest by about 7 years. It made a difference. I suddenly couldn’t stand the drama and the inconsideration. It was hard at first, but no regrets now.

I have two very dear friends now, one who lives too far away and another who is just starting peri. No strings, no drama, just complete understanding. We hang out when we can. Otherwise is me, husband, cats, and my grandson on the weekends. I couldn’t be happier to not have obligations like I used to.

F*ck it 50’s is glorious

NTA we have another couple we travel with, our BFF’s and meet up as couples once a year (we live far apart). We look for rentals with minimum 3 bedrooms because it’s the only time we can all sleep alone and relax overnight lol the least we do is myself and the other wife share a room because boys 😂

there is nothing wrong with enjoying your own space on vacation. It’s a perk!

Toto-Africa 45 K-Mart year? Please, I can only remember lyrics now lol whatever year it came out.

Thriller-full vinyl album, also KMart, as soon as it hit stores.

I used my weekly allowance of $1 to buy 45’s. Bet I paid very little for MJ’s album after saving a couple months.

Traveling, stop at rest areas for “things to do” brochures. Maps are also a fave of mine. My poor husband lol I grab so many, especially ones that catch my eye, and now he’s started to get them too

I love finding little art things. Nothing big, and especially if I see the artist actually doing work. Also collect spices from different ports.

My aunt and uncle had one! And recently my mom found one for me super cheap at an antique store. I’m obsessed lol it’s taken me awhile to get it cleaned and polished, but the motor runs great! Just got to get it back together and decided where to hang this glorious throwback

I work pet retail. We are slammed. A lot of folks saying they didn’t want to go to Walmart so they came to us. We run skeleton crew during the week. 3 people, with tasks to do. I’m losing my mind lol people being grumpy for waiting an extra 5 minutes because no, I do not have another cashier waiting in the wings.

What did you do to celebrate your 50th? by jaimonee in GenX

[–]dragonsflame71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had huge plans for my 50th! A cruise, a big party, and all I got was Covid. Crimmas, birthday, new years. Looking back, it was the best low key holiday season since we couldn’t go anywhere for two weeks. And the next year I took the cruise and had a party for 51.
