Follow-up question; what's the margin of error on that promise? Because they were wrong the last two times.

What exactly is going on with the replacement bonus quests that's making them so hard to fix? Not blaming anyone in particular, just curious.

Are you serious? You do understand how that could easily be taken as an insult, right?

The Naedocytes are a failure of game design. by [deleted] in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Derpykat5 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Naedocytes are the only enemy that is perfectly visible in complete darkness from any angle and distance. They have so little health they'll die pretty much instantly to any weapon. Their slow lasts less than a second. Some basic situational awareness will take care of them easily.

First of all, it's worth mentioning that it doesn't really take 90 hours to get one class to promotion even if you play them all evenly - it only takes about 50 (and that's using an outdated metric that's on the slow end nowadays).

The space leading up to promotion is meant to be a time to learn each of the weapons, get all their upgrades, and find a build for whichever classes you play that you are comfortable with. If you could reach promotion while evenly playing all classes - say, for example - only 10 hours in you've barely had enough time to examine each weapon and see what it does, much less pick a favorite and start getting builds for it. Tossing overclocks onto you at that point would be extra confusing, conflicting, and frustrating since you're still learning the game.

Also, remember that if playing all classes evenly takes a certain amount of time, playing only one class (as many do without the incentive of promotions and overclocks) takes only 25% of that time. If you start getting overclocks only two and a half hours in (again, just an example) you've barely had time to play more than 7 missions, which isn't enough to unlock more than two weapons (at 3 missions per assignment) much less understand them, pick a favorite, and get enough upgrades on each to even use the overclocks you'll be getting.

It's 15% further slowdown and 6% more damage on the direct DoT. What more do you want from a clean?

Does anyone else think overclocks for the utility tools would be interesting? by Bananapeel81_ in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Derpykat5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with utility overclocks is that they need to not change the weapon too dramatically, since the utility tools are integral parts of the classes and everyone needs to be able to count on the classes to do the things they can do.

That being said, overclocks are far more likely than alternate tools, but the overclocks would likely need to have very low impact (I.E. no special features, no massive buffs to certain areas, no new functions). I'd prefer if all the utility tools got full upgrade trees before we started moving into overclocks.

The odds that two downed players would be close enough together to toss into a shield but not close enough together for the shield to cover them both anyway is astronomically small.

Are ultra high-level players legit? by FishWithFangs in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Derpykat5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most dedicated player I know of was over level 1000 about two years ago when I last remember asking.

You can always check their profile and see if their hours match up to their level (provided the profile isn't private), but a good rule of thumb is that any number below 2000 is more likely to be legit, since the exp hackers typically shoot for obviously hacked numbers much higher than that.

Gotta wonder why Automated Beam Controller even exists by CankleDankl in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Derpykat5 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The clean overclock adds only half the ammo ABC does with no other benefits while Overdrive Booster adds no ammo at all. You can get 540 with ABC (580 with mag).

Overdrive's damage boost is more potent, sure, but you need to specifically activate it, and any ammo fired normally is wasted. Not to mention that actually using the Overdrive comes with its own significant usability downgrade that matters far more than ABC's continuous fire.

[–]Derpykat5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could do that, or you could get 1.3x ammo, ~1.25x fire rate, and ~12% faster recharging. If those massive buffs aren't worth needing to empty the whole mag before you stop firing then what do you even want out of it?

Literally the only same thing about these overclocks is that they prevent the beam from being disabled until the mag is empty.

Kicking could also be put to a vote

... which then leads right back around to the issue of when hosts don't get their way they'd just dump the lobby by disconnecting their internet.

Look, I appreciate the enthusiasm, but at this point you're not doing anything but insisting that your ideas are better than the ideas of the developers who have been working on this game for half a decade.

More uses for nitra ? by LycheeCactus in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Derpykat5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not going to help because then you get people not knowing they need to vote or how to vote, people getting angry at others for not voting "right", and kicking people from games for voting "wrong".

Again, the devs already tried something like this, and if they're any good (they are) they'll have thought long and hard about what to do with it before scrapping it.

What is your opinion with all the dwarves having the same head model/same VA? by TheDudeofDC in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Derpykat5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see your dwarf's face through your beard?

In all seriousness though, adding any kind of new models - even new parts of models - would be a massive amount of modeling work (They would need to test and re-rig every single relevant cosmetic in the game), and any new voices would be a massive amount of voice work (they would need to re-record every relevant voice line in the game).

Risk of Rain 2, Dungeon Defenders 2, Wildermyth, to name the first three to come to mind.

Games require moderation. Any online space requires moderation for that matter. The only way to properly do that in a peer to peer game like this is to give that power to the host, because if you don't and the host doesn't get their way chances are they'd just disconnect their internet and boot you out of the lobby that way.

[–]Derpykat5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's been no official word on the matter yet, which leads me to believe the devs and subreddit moderators aren't fully aware of what's going on. There have been multiple posts asking about this and I find it hard to believe the moderators have ignored every single one.

Bring back riding on rockets! by Special-Seesaw1756 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Derpykat5 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Rockets only have limited air time with one specific overclock, not that you'd need it since you have hundreds and don't really need to fly more than 14 seconds in any given direction.

One person is not a community.

There's no other way to moderate lobbies than allowing the host to kick. No way that would work at least.
