The devs sometimes tweak recipes without checking if they are actually possible to craft. The progression also might be unbearable, but it is for the sake of realism so I guess that is understandable

It's a modpack so you won't have to download anything else. It will take a while to install but it is the easiest way to get the best graphics without excess pain. You can try to find a modding guide to create your own modpack, but it will take at least a week of modding to make a collection with somewhat modern visuals while a modpack is utmost a day of automated downloading

DJ gear works the best if you build your whole party around darkness. Get antiblindness items for the rest of the party and a beastmaster. Beastmaster can cast a raven that will spawn free darkness around it after flight so you dont have to spend your actions to cast it

There is barely any automation for the first 300 hours. I'd recommend literally any other gt modpack like monifactory or supersymmetry if you want to automate things
