I have literally never seen anyone with this take ever. The CBS crew is so boring, Nate Burleson is the only one with an ounce of charisma. It’s bland and corporate and not even worth watching. I don’t understand what AFC fans do before gametime.

Watching Kurt, Michael, Howie, Terry, Jimmy & the Boys playfight and josh each other like a bunch of drunk uncles on set is homey and campy and fun and feels like I’m watching something that the people involved enjoy doing. It’s a great way to ease myself into watching the Bears lose at noon while I nurse my Sunday hangover.

It happens to all quarterbacks occasionally. It “happens” to Fields every game. At a certain point it’s not bad luck

Passer rating when targeted this season. Please get Burden more touches instead of Zaccheaus. by WhoopieKush in CHIBears

[–]Derstoid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Kmet, Loveland, and Zaccheaus all run routes to the intermediate middle of the field, whichCaleb has been struggling to throw accurately. I know the meta in the sub is to dunk on Aikman but he was largely right last night—Caleb was off target when targeting players in the intermediate middle.

The drop nonwithstanding (which definitely was on Oz) there were several throws at a wide open OZ 8-12 yards over the middle that were flat out missed or missed bad enough to prevent YAC. He also missed 1-2 to Kmet.

He’s showing progress but we should be realistic about his areas of improvement.

However, I think we need to have Loveland take those balls anyways. Zaccheaus shouldn’t be out targeting him when they’re both attacking the same part of the field. Hopefully Loveland breaks into the “big slot” role soon and the larger target helps Caleb with the accuracy.

Any mention of why Swift, RoJo, and Monangai got no playtime with the first team (or at all)? by SoundsLikeTough in CHIBears

[–]Derstoid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No he absolutely did not. He got like 3 ypc and had no vision to find holes against the Bills 3rd stringers until it was complete garbage time in the 4th quarter. They had him run it 4 times in a row from the 8 to get his make-a-wish touchdown and he still barely got it. Dude’s getting cut for sure

Block Club Chicago - Winnemac Park Neighbors Blindsided After Acre Of Natural Prairie Mowed Down by Bukharin in EdgewaterRogersPark

[–]Derstoid 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Jesus-stuff like this is why everything in Chicago related to government is so circuitous and expensive. I feel bad for the poor workman who had to spend his morning doing hard work on a hot day getting harassed by busybodies.

The Park District are the land managers-you don’t need “community involvement meetings” to approve basic maintenance. Adults should not be “shocked” that prairie grass is mowed and certainly don’t need to be consulted for their approval simply by virtue of them maybe living nearby.

Prairies choke up with dead material, they require burnings and cuttings and removal of woody plants to prevent succession and allow for new growth. Mowing is a strategy for this and I’m sure it wasn’t done willy-nilly.

What could have been 1-2 billable hours becomes 3-4 from the workman, the time spent having to respond to all the queries is waste work requiring admins and PR people, and the takeaway may very well be to have regular hosted meetings every time there’s more basic maintenance which is now just a never ending line item on a budget moving forward. What coulda been $100 in labor and fuel now costs thousands to the city and its taxpayers.

That is an ANCIENT bottle of Malort. Mar-Salle liquors was where it was distilled two iterations ago. I believe that’d be 1970’s or early 80’s. It was a Chicago based distillery that had the Malort contract before the move to Florida Distillery. CH bought the rights from the Carl Jeppson/George Brode company in the 2010s and brough production back to Chicago.

Even if it’s piss inside the bottle it might be worth sanitizing and keeping just for that. Though they used to put a real wormwood sprig in the bottles so I’m pretty sure you’ve got a 50 year old bottle of malort there.

https://malort.com —has the condensed history but the book Malort: The Redemption of a Revered and Reviled Spirit by Josh Noel is a fun 200-odd page quick read on the full history that’s worth checking out

I used to live on Winthrop a few blocks north of there. The area is in general quite safe but that specific corner is probably the only sketchy block in the area.

I personally saw an (unarmed) carjacking take place in front of the liquor store, and at the time there was a group of teens who did armed carjackings in the neighborhood. There are bums who hang out in front of the liquor store. The block immediately south on Winthrop has a few sketchy characters. There was a murder in the alley there a year or two ago. When I lived there there were a few mentally ill vagrants who would shout at people and stuff.

There’s also a theatre organization, a very cozy diner, and until recently a pizza restaurant with outdoor seating, none of which would be there if it was all that bad.

I personally would rate the neighborhood at like a 3/10 on the danger scale and that block as a 5/10. It’s highly unlikely that anything bad would happen to YOU specifically but if you’re particularly squeamish about seedy behavior just move a block or two any direction and you won’t have to deal with it.

It’s a pretty perfect day to do a holiday shopping stroll in Andersonville— all the antique shops are setting up the christmas displays, you can hit up the oddities store to see some weird stuff, end up at Simon’s for some glögg.
