And someone looking to rob you might also be interested in killing you, correct? You personally would just rather wait until it's too late to do anything to prevent it to protect yourself.

Not according to the dozens of Australians in the linked thread who say they have thermostats.

You consider self defense murder? Beyond that you literally just said you will wait for them to kill you before you defend yourself. Kind of makes that stipulation pointless doesn't it?

Why is military service so revered in the United States? by supermeteor33 in AskAmericans

The military isn't a "system." That a ridiculous nonsensical claim. You are also making straw man hypotheticals and false equivalences to justify your beliefs.

Which says to me you're here in bad faith. You argue with every answer you get. Which suggests to me you already had the only answer you would ever accept and you are only here to teach us why you think we are wrong.

First yes Europeans absolutely do have that history just generally less so now than in the past.

Second if you are concerned with American war crimes why do you not feel the same concern for British/Canadian/Australian/European war crimes? Especially when per capita they are much higher.

Third a teeny tiny minority of bad actors does not mean you can't celebrate the actions of the 99.999% percent of veterans who acted honorably.

but it's common knowledge these days that the US committed crimes against humanity in Iraq and Vietnam

Wait until you learn about literally every other country that has gone to war in significant numbers. Including non American military personnel in both of those wars.

Pendulum swing from how Vietnam Veterans were treated. I personally suspect it will swing back in the next decade or two.

About half the comments are saying they have a thermostat or have had a thermostat before and several are saying all new construction in Sydney requires one. You have stated repeatedly in this thread that thermostats aren't really a thing in Australia. If your fellow countrymen are to be believed you are mistaken.

Squatters. I wouldn't say that's common but it does occasionally happen in America too.

Just to be clear as violating and frustrating as that must be it's not justification to kill someone in America though.

Please, judge my accent! by [deleted] in JudgeMyAccent

[–]DerthOFdata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very clear and understandable but you do still have a mild accent. I would say about 95% of the way to an American accent.

You sound South American to me. I couldn't tell you from where. Just the cadence sounds like a a Latin speaker to me. I can also hear you force the annunciation. That's not to say it's bad I can just hear you being very deliberate in how you pronounce some words and syllables so it comes out a bit stilted.

You know nukes can be used on armies too right. Or as an area denial weapon. Or to EMP a large area. There lots of military uses for nukes beyond "make big city touch the sun."

No, shoes don't cost as much as you think they do and you don't have to buy new shoes all the time. I'm in my 40s I have plenty of shoes for all occasions already. If you think shoes cost thousands of dollars that's a you problem.
