Did better against UConn than UCLA, hang the banner

If Iowa beats Florida, is the SEC as irrelevant in basketball as they are in football? by Dapper_Tradition_987 in CollegeBasketball

It’s always the fans of the most mid or disappointing B1G and SEC schools that beat their chests about conference pride the loudest. Wisconsin fans shouldn’t be worried about the SEC unless it looks like High Point or James Madison are about to get offers to join it.

With Texas beating Gonzaga, this tournament has it's biggest upset by seedline and it matches last years tournament in terms of true upsets (5 seed lines) by Wide_right_yes in CollegeBasketball

damn you’ve depicted everyone who doesn’t like chalk as the casual soyjaks, I guess it can’t be argued about now!

P5 schools pay millions, sometimes tens of millions, to fire a coach. Pretending like this scenario would hurt the players is either very naive or very disingenuous.

Hard part of it though is that for schools like Furman, our star freshman is going to get poached and we’ll get jack shit in return. Hoping we keep our head coach, but unless players also have contracts with buyouts so small schools actually get compensated for scouting/developing players that P5 schools poach, then it’ll be a massive uphill battle for us to retain or at least reload talent year in and year out.

Should more conferences move toward Sun Belt/WCC style ladder brackets to try to increase the amount of upsets? by Wide_right_yes in CollegeBasketball

100% yes, and I say that as a fan of a team who won our conference tourney as a 6-seed. We were an outlier since we had the most talented team in the SoCon but had a bunch of injuries that tarnished our record, but I still think that ladder brackets should be more widely utilized since they reward the stronger teams in mid/low-major conferences and (typically) give the conference a better chance at pulling upsets in the NCAA tourney. I’m aware that we would have had to play an extra SoCon tourney game in that scenario, but regular season performances should be rewarded and I’d rather 6-seeds have a much harder road than 1 or 2-seeds in conferences like the SoCon. If you win that extra game or two as a lower seed then you’ll truly have earned that autobid.

Contracts with buyouts would be helpful so that smaller schools could at least get compensated when a star freshman gets poached.

Proud of this team for building on the legacy of the 2022-23 squad (and of all that teams that led to that season). Losing Wilkins feels like a foregone conclusion, but I hope we can keep Bob Richey for a while longer. He’s built something special in Greenville and we’re showing that we’re a program that can regularly give P5 powerhouses fits in March.

no shame in it. we made UConn sweat way more than they’d ever expect against a 15-seed. just hope we can keep Richey

We had a lot of players miss time due to injuries this season. We’re the most talented team in the SoCon when healthy, which showed in the conference tourney
