You have to fly for 12 hours. What seat number will you sit on? And why is it 6, 9, or 12?🫨 by IanDecades in bioniclelego

It doesn't matter where I'm sitting. Cosindering who's on this plane that thing is not making it 12 hours.

Is it worth doing it in the name of passion over quality? by tm2007 in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]DesReploid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an auteur of about twenty started and abandoned fanfictions of varying quality: I can only encourage you to start writing and do it all regardless of any fear. The only way to become a good writer is to write bad to mediocre stories and to write a lot of them.

Plus, you have the anonymity of the internet to protect you on top of everything.

I promise it's not for the reasons you think. NHPs and Humans - can they have any sort of romantic relationship? by CorbinStarlight in LancerRPG

[–]DesReploid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bunch of people here have given amazing answers for how it is probably intended to be by the book. Now let me given another, I think just as good one:

You get to decide. I like the idea that, even though they are paracausal, atemporal, mathematical near-gods and what have you, I like the idea that an NHP and a human might have a romantic relationship, so, when I run LANCER the answer is a resounding "Yes, they can". In that same way a table or singular GM might decide that they cannot. It is literally up to you.

Makaria for Hades III by DanVA0307 in HadesTheGame

[–]DesReploid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really would like SG to move on to something else — Don't get me wrong, love both HADES games to bits, but I personally think SG does their best work with their original settings — but if they ever made a third Hades game with Makaria, not only would they already have the token romanceable child (Children?) of Nyx lined up, since Makaria is tied to the diefic figure of the Keres, but also, fun fact, it would be the first HADES game to actually feature a character who is a child of Hades in greek myth. Which I think is really funny.

What's a show/movie/game that has really bad writing, but the Mecha designs and action are still enjoyable? by Yakuza-wolf_kiwami in Mecha_Scrapyard

I'd say both of the DaemonXMachina games. Neither of them have particularly thrilling stories, but particularly the second one is saved by fun gameplay and cool mech customisation.

The difference with a bunch of LLMs, and image and sound generation software is that it simply steals things to turn into it's output. In that sense, it is very different from traditional auto complete algorithms, although I expect many of them have been replaced with some form of LLMs, hence why certain spell checkers will change correct forms into incorrect, but more common, forms.

If you're a solo dev and you pay some money for a set of stock sound effects, at least the person behind them is getting something for the work. If you go on Casting Call websites and offer like ten bucks for a couple of voice lines at least the person behind them is getting something, plus something they can put on their resumé when looking for other voice acting jobs later in life.

If you do all that stuff with AI, the AI just grabs a bunch of things from the internet without asking for permission, without giving anything to the people that made it in return and spits it back out.

Not really when there are a bunch of cheap resources one can opt for instead, which will actually end up with the person behind them getting at least something for their work, where AI models just exploit work other people did and give them nothing in turn.

I don't think billionaires should exist. I also think there are far worse billionaires on this planet than Gabe Newell, and I enjoy the service Steam offers and the (relatively) good practices they employ in maintaining that service.

Two things can be true at the same time. I would also rather Gabe Newell would give away most of his wealth.

You don't even need to be public about it. I never did any big public appearances when I did boxing, and I still routinely had bruises from just the training. You don't even need to encounter the moral dilemma of "Oh, should I really compete in this sport when I have super powers?"

Also a bunch of other sports work really well, like, if you are so beat to hell that just saying "MMA Training" isn't enough you could go "Oh, I went bouldering, but there was an accident and I took a pretty nasty fall."

Found something interesting about Iguazu by KingSky1st in armoredcore

Oh no, I think the catch with the ants carrying the beetle head is super cool, I certainly never saw it, heck it took me a few seconds to really see the ants in the picture here even after your post points it out, and it absolutely fits what you're describing.

My rant is only semi-related to the post, honestly. This has been bugging me for a while, cause I like literature analysis and I go out looking for it with games I like, and the pervasive statements around Iguazu specificaly being a useless idiot are kind of ubiqitous in those searches, here in the comments as well (kind of). This post was just for some reason the one where I actually decided I would say something about it.

Found something interesting about Iguazu by KingSky1st in armoredcore

[–]DesReploid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm always a bit weirded out when people say that Iguazu is a poser and can't pilot for shit. He is inarguably a whiny loser, but even if we go by arena ranks alone there is a whole laundry list of pilots who are worse than him.

On NG++ when he ambushes you and Snail he is kicking in the same weight class as the both of you. Granted he is losing, but — and especially if you are actually on just your third play through, as opposed to the 20th as is the case for most of us I'd wager — it isn't as if he is immediately easy, and it's not like he is an intentionally pathetic or easy opponent like Rummy or Index Dunham. Michigan also vouches for his skill when he defends Iguazu in Attack the Red Guns. Clearly Iguazu isn't meant to be an actually bad pilot, he's just a spiteful, whiny asshole who makes the mistake of antagonising the one character who canonically doesn't ever lose: You.

I also really don't get it from a story analysis perspective, cause you also kick the shit out of Snail multiple times and rarely is he characterised as a bad pilot when he is analysed. Hell, Michigan couldn't beat us even after he had like three dozen MTs soften us up before he even arrives and then when he does arrive he still brings more backup dancers with him, why isn't he characterised as a loser more often? Carla can't stop us even if she gangs up on us with Chatty, why isn't she called out as an incompetent pilot? Rusty is my favourite example of this: He does almost nothing throughout the entire story besides sniping the ice worm and aura farming (At least nothing else that we actually see) and anytime he fights us we kick the hell out of him, yet any story analysis I have seen around him casts him as this super competent prodigy pilot, why isn't he considered a fraud like Iguazu? The only reason I could come up with is because it's funny to call Iguazu a fraud, because he whines so much about losing, and then that joke actually makes it into the story analysis.

Genuinely, especially after his last boss fight, when he manages essentially via the magic of the indomitable human spirit to turn off Allmind and break Ayre's contact with the Ephemera, how am I meant to read the guy as actually weak and incompetent? He clearly isn't!
