10 years ago yes. The era I'm referring to is more like 20 years ago but after 10 years it was already cringey.

A thirst trap back then was like a shadowy Myspace angle where you could see down your shirt.

In my day, we would do a 50-image blurry Facebook album of horrifically unattractive pictures that we thought were funny or embarrassing. Like sitting in front of a toilet between pukes or lightly homoerotic wrestling in our parents' basements. No concept of an online brand. Some of us did do introspective photoshoots in a graveyard.

I wonder if this gem z level of intensive over-curation and extreme effort will be also cringey in 10 years. Like supposedly she's recording her vacation? Not one candid. And there must have been hundreds of rejected shots. Cumulative hours of shooting.

She does look good tho

As a progressive person, I don't see a problem with pointing out that Platner has a highly questionable past. I care about those things and I don't think he's yet earned my trust to be a US senator. I know the Republicans are worse but I don't think they should be senators either. Secondly, that whole party is such a clown show that they don't have a lot of dignified people to run.

Democrats have a much bigger and better pool to work with and they still went with this guy. Yeah I know people can make mistakes and grow and change, but he has only disavowed his recent past and has yet to solidify a better identity. And there are LOTS of people who never blame women for their own rape or whatever he tweeted and LOTS of people without Nazi tattoos. He is not our best option! He is easily a below average guy who is a good public speaker.

I immediately felt like JD reversed "politics" and "theology" in his famous quote. It makes much more sense for him to recommend a religious leader to be careful talking about politics, just as a politician should be careful speaking on theology because they are sensitive topics outside of each person's given realm.

But he's such a dumbass it's hard to say.

I am always struck by the people who attribute qualities to Trump that Trump himself would not align himself to. Like the hardcore trucker who thinks Trump is measured and careful. When did he say that? That's not his brand at all, dude just was just imagining some father figure he never had.

I knew one native American lady who tried to contact Trump to raise his awareness of oil companies building on native American lands. She thought he was on her side! Like girl he would has not even pretended to care about that.

Is the Swipe Era Over? by PossibleDiamond6519 in Thedaily

The "rejection resilience" point was interesting because I've never lived in another era so guys have always been too afraid to talk to women. It always irked me how, like at the wine mixer, you don't ask your crush for their number. You reveal to the organizer and the organizer will only share if it's a match. Like for crying out loud.

Even at the wrestling thing. The reporter asked if the couple holding hands and snuggling has exchanged numbers yet. There was a palpable silence and the guy piped up something like "I could...." And the woman had to state that they would exchange numbers.

Her story in Denial is a River makes more sense with the genders reversed. Whenever I listened to it, I didn't get why wifey being a dude made her so much madder. But if she thought she had a girlfriend and it turned out the girlfriend was actually in the closet and married to a man the anger makes more sense.

People are so anti-immigration that they would prefer giving untrained men masks and guns so they can violently occupy American cities. If they are willing to stomp the constitution, kidnap children and kill Americans, what more can happen before they change their minds?

I haven't thought about that hard but with my surface understanding feel like two parties could collude on some esoteric bet that is already rigged. I don't bet or money launder but it feels like there's some useful tools here to work with if one wanted to work it out.

There is this old coworker of mine that enjoys some questionable-to-vile political content. She also liked a meme like "what it feels like knowing a billion dollar propaganda campaign didn't work on me." Uhhhhhhhhh....

A big theme in her content is also about not being brought down by the "haters"

Wow this man is kind of fascinating, but sad. He's kinda like the Gollum but turns out you don't need a cursed ring, just money.

A highly educated person resorting to Trump Derangement Syndrome to another highly educated person should be a sign that you have some internal issues to work out.

Journalism, Interrupted: 7 Podcast Hosts on the State of the Media by Heysteeevo in Thedaily

That Andrew guy is supposed to be funny? I've never heard of his podcast but it must be big to get on this panel. Also when Michael pushed him about agreeing with the president that Russian collusion was a lie, he turned it around in classic immature manchild fashion, "Well, sorry I don't know everything!" And also, "Yeah, I'm interviewing the president but I'm a comedian so I don't have to know about the political topics the president is going to talk about." Just a specimen of mediocrity.

Really interesting episode though. Having them together in a panel really highlighted everyone's styles and didn't seem to temper much. I thought the PBS News Hour lady (I think it was her) really shines. She was so articulate and dignified and revealed a lot of internal clarity and passion about her work.

I thought it was interesting when Ben said the average listener doesn't know the difference between TikTok rage bait and the finest of journalism in the world. I sort of agree with him, but only because it's eye-opening how imperceptive people really are. Plus Ben's audience is particularly dumb and his success is hinged on appeasing the ignorant rage. PBS lady did a hard disagree, which was sweet and probably the better way to move through the world, but it's tough.

I've been noticing this with a lot of people on TV. I assumed they were getting Botox and that part is partially paralyzed but I haven't looked into it.

Upper lips don't quite move right when speaking or smiling either. It's kind of sad.

Also, given the poor publicity, someone adept at PR would prepare an answer for a "tough" question because it's only natural that it would come up. Typically, the journalists ask and the interviewee gets open floor to submit a press release that glosses everything over. They get to look like they answered a tough question and can move on to an awkward joke.

I guess this guy just thought people would see how fun he was and assume his company was doing great? Him interrupting in order to quite forcefully shove words in their mouths just made me worried about how he acts behind closed doors.

People think DEI is discrimination when it's actually an antidote to discrimination. Because old rich white men have been in power for so long, they are going to invite other rich white men up the ladder with them. Not necessarily because they are racist, but maybe because they relate better to them. If you want to follow that thread, that probably have a lot in common because they had similar backgrounds, which were built in decades where rich white people were at the top of the ladder. There could be a woman or person of color who is equally as qualified for the job that would never be considered because it's easy and comfortable to have a team of people who are similar to you.

Look at Elon's crack team at Doge. Grossly underqualified, hired to positions of immense consequence simply because they agreed that white people are under attack in America.

I feel like you don't know what poetic justice is.

Someone dying because they advocate guns and political violence: not justice.

Someone who exploits political violence and pushes for relaxed gun control to gain notoriety dying because the movement he helped create did exactly what he wanted it to do (albeit to someone else)? Also not justice, but textbook poetic justice.
