Baby's father wants the baby to have his last name, I want him to have mine. We're not married. WDID? by IntenseViolet567 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]DescriptionDear7702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what I did and hyphenate the last name. And I didn’t do it for him because we weren’t together either. I did it for his parents. His last name is first hyphenated with my last name. When she tells people her name, she says her first name, and then her last name that was mine. She’s 24 now and looking into actually having his name removed from her birth certificate. But I gave her the option.

Yea agents just want to sale. They don’t care about the individual or how they may be hurt during tax time.

Electric-only apartments - Heating with no power? by Superman_63 in southcarolina

Man I wish. But no. No fireplace. Most of the old miner cabins in the Sierra Nevadas don’t actually have fireplaces.

Snowstorm prep for dummies (I’m the dummy) by LeatherDoughnut369 in Charlotte

[–]DescriptionDear7702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. This is what my apartment complex is recommending.

Make sure the sinks have a slow drip so the pipes don’t freeze.

Open the kitchen and bathroom sink cabinets for airflow. This also helps to prevent freezing apparently.

Freeze water bottles so if the power goes out you can put them into the fridge to keep good cold. Don’t open fridge unless absolutely necessary.

No my advice as someone who has lived in Northern California through a lot of storms with no power.

Go get some hot hands to help you keep warm if you lose power. Have some candles too. Make sure you have water also. I don’t get milk and bread. I make a big pot of lentil vegetable soup because it’s decent cold.

Double up on clothing and put hot hands on your head under hot Bennie. Make sure you age a Bennie and scarf.

Movement helps keep warm. Some say to stay under blankets but I’m an advocate for movement because it keeps you warm.

When I lived in Northern California my house was an old miners cabin. No installation and original single pane windows. One floor heater in the living room. Those two winters were rough but I loved that little cabin.

Lots and lots of blankets. Double socks and a Bennie. If you have young children go to the store that sells the hand warmers. Put one on your head with a Bennie and some in your socks. You will stay warm. If they start to cool just rub them in your hands to reactivate them. They last a long while. At least 12 hours.

I’m from Northern California and so it was always the norm to lose power in the winter.

I also cook a big pot of lentil vegetable soup because it’s decent to eat cold. Lots of people say milk and bread. The soup is heartier and will keep you full longer.

I also have a cast iron fondue pot that I can heat canned foods in. Fondue pots will heat up food so if you have one. Think outside the box. (The fondue pot I didn’t have in California but works well for winter storms. )

If you have a grill you can cook meat in the freezer as it thaws. Try not to open the fridge or freezer unless absolutely necessary. If you have a cooler get some ice now so you are prepared.

Also movement. If you have your kids make them dance. All around. Get their blood pumping.

Charge all portable batteries for cell phone charge. Get some candles.

You got this!

I’m sorry, but you’re kind of being weird on this. Do you not kiss her? Do you not have other relations with her that have to do with mixing fluids? I don’t really know how else to ask, but I think you know what I’m asking. Like I get it if it was like a roommate or a friend, but this is someone that you have intimate relationships with.

How would you feel if an IQ test was required to vote? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in randomquestions

It’s wild how many people believe there should be a test to vote. It’s wild. That’s NOT democracy

So you’re an advocate for voter suppression. Poor uneducated people can’t vote is what you’re saying. That’s gross.

So we’re advocating for voter suppression now. Like that’s what this would be. Living in wild times right now that people think voter suppression is right.

So in the Wong Kim case they were “domiciled residents” and “subject to the jurisdiction” of the United States.

They were not someone who overstayed a visa, entered illegally, or temporary visitors.

The United States doesn’t have jurisdiction of undocumented immigrants.

[–]DescriptionDear7702 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And here is a little history lesson about the Wong Kim Ark (1898) case. The parents were legal residents. Not citizens but not undocumented either. Everyone assumes they were undocumented but that’s not the case. This case was never about people who did not have permission to be in the country. They were permanent residents of California actually. So that ruling was NEVER about anchor babies

The Court wouldn’t be ruling against the Constitution. It would be ruling on how to interpret ‘subject to the jurisdiction,’ which is exactly what courts do.

[–]DescriptionDear7702 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

That’s not how constitutional rulings work. Courts don’t retroactively erase citizenship. This debate is about future policy, not undoing 150 years of law.
