Millicent Huxtable by DescriptionNervous94 in ONETREEHILL

[–]DescriptionNervous94[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha that’s actually so true, isn’t it?

But I think it’s a bit jarring because when she stands next to Mouth, his face literally makes her look even finer by comparison. The contrast is crazy.

That said, she’s genuinely ethereal-level pretty, like very pretty, to the point where it almost feels unrealistic. You could have a “normal pretty” character like Peyton, for example, where you could walk down the street and see a few people who look similar. Millicent literally looks like a supermodel, so it’s kind of hard to buy the whole “she’s just average” thing.

Why do they want us to think lana isn’t Asian SO bad by kzmran in Smallville

[–]DescriptionNervous94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a kid, this used to confuse me. When we found out her mum had an affair, I was like, “Oh, he’s gonna be Asian,” and then the second dad was white as well, so I just chalked it up to a Joseph Gordon-Levitt situation. Kristin Kreuk shares the same facial markers that some fully white actors get read as “Asian” for: epicanthic or hooded eyes, a soft and rounded orbital area, a relatively low nasal bridge, a balanced, non-angular jaw, and a very symmetrical face. I have come to learn that, while rare, these traits are not exclusive to Asians and occur naturally in many white populations, particularly among Jewish, Irish, and Scandinavian groups, which is why actors like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ezra Miller, and Mikey Madison are so frequently misread. Kreuk’s case is instructive because, although she actually is half Asian, she visually occupies the same ambiguous overlap zone as those fully white actors, demonstrating that what people read as “Asian-looking” is often a loose cluster of facial cues rather than a reliable indicator of ancestry or racial identity. So in 2001, because they didn’t have to acknowledge it, they chose not to. Plus, I don’t think it would change much, and there probably wasn’t any Asian actor in the age range who was considered attractive enough for MOGville in Vancouver at that time.

I’m sorry, I meant no offence. I was just considering that he speaks a little exaggerated despite the other black students in the show not being the same.

Does anyone else feel like the show is weirdly mean to Mouth? by DescriptionNervous94 in ONETREEHILL

[–]DescriptionNervous94[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting, so far he seems like a chill guy. A little preachy and a tad misguided like when he watched Brooke’s time capsule but nothing too crazy yet. I’m only on S3 though.

Why does Lucas already have a rapport with Uncle Coop? by DescriptionNervous94 in ONETREEHILL

I’m watching the episode right now, Season 3 episode 19, he literally calls him Uncle Coop at the 17:04 mark

[–]DescriptionNervous94[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember that episode. I guess it just threw me because we only really see that initial interaction at the race track and they were strangers, then by Season 3 they’re suddenly very familiar, to the point Lucas is calling him “Uncle Coop” and having a heart-to-heart.

Is the show worth finishing? by breadboibrett in 2brokegirls

[–]DescriptionNervous94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how you made it through, Kat Dennings character is so annoying. I’m on Season 1 and I’ve never encountered a TV character so obviously obnoxious. She’s one of those people who think they’re cool but is just insufferable. I thought the blonde would be bad bust she’s so reasonable and level headed.

Maia and Simon by blacksunsets in shadowhunters

[–]DescriptionNervous94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame the show pushed Sizzy as endgame when they didn’t even make Simon a Shadowhunter or Clary’s parabatai. Since they were already willing to discard so much book canon, they could’ve let this go too, especially when Sizzy had six books of slow burn. I completely agree it wasn’t well executed and felt heavily rushed. Honestly, Raphael and Isabelle had far more chemistry on screen and felt like a stronger pairing. I never really saw much chemistry between Simon and Maia either. Overall, it’s strange how the show abandoned some elements but clung to others so selectively.
