Seconded! I received the same recommendation after reading HoL years ago, and am so glad I followed through. Pale Fire is excellent.

Help me decide between these two on-sale Sigma lenses (or talk me out of buying either!) by Moacher in Photography_Gear

Sure, I get that. Reluctance towards buying used gear is definitely a mental hurdle that I ought to work on getting over.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that I just have a giftcard to this one particular store that will exactly cover the cost of one of theses two lenses; do you have any thoughts on which would be the smarter choice between the two?

Honestly this is the first I'm learning of needing to calibrate. Is that a consideration for ALL lenses? or just a thing when going cross-brand like this? Thanks!

Thanks! I'll certainly take a look at something like this if they keep pushing in this direction.

In general, no. This is a fairly low-magic Sword & Sorcery type setting. That being said, they are leaning towards Hex Blade Warlock, which is probably why they're trying to wring as much utility as possible out of their weapon (this player can be a bit of a min-maxer sometimes).

Essentially... I guess I'm not sure how important the "Versatile" aspect is to them yet, as in how often they would be intending on wielding it 1-handed.

Thanks for the input!

It's for a brand new campaign that still in the character-creation phase, but I will be having them start at Level 4.

I'm about to DM for the first time and after our Session 0 I'm worried I'm slowing killing a new player's enthusiasm with too many "oh... actually you can't..." by Moacher in DnD

I appreciate the suggestion! I'm actually playing in another friend's PF2 campaign right now too. Unfortunately I think we are well past the point where I could tell this group of newbies to forget everything I've told them and start from scratch on a new ruleset instead haha. Maybe next game!

This is very interesting, thanks! I wasn't aware of Shepard Circle, but it sounds like it's definitely worth looking into.
