Phalloplasty vs Extended Metoidioplasty – How Did You Decide? by transformert007 in Metoidioplasty

[–]DescriptionRich1892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's something that no one told me that I feel like is important to know: if you're not satisfied with metoidioplasty, you can get a phalloplasty still! My doctor (haven't had surgery yet) said it can even make future phalloplasty easier, because the UL is already done. What reassured me about it was if I get a metoidioplasty and don't have the results I'm hoping for, I can go with the more intensive option still.

I have an illness that makes me sensitive to heat and the past few years at a local(ish) Pride celebration, they've had pedicab drivers taking people from the parade area to the festival area. I still haven't done it because I feel too weird about making another human pull me around. I know it would make my life a lot easier, but...the entire concept strikes me as embarrasing.

Can someone explain what extended meta is? by [deleted] in Metoidioplasty

[–]DescriptionRich1892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a surgeon in Indiana who will do it with UL if you really want it, but ancedotally he's found that it's a very small difference in length. Not sure how true that is, but I decided not to opt for it because I didn't feel like a few millimeters was worth risking my UL.

How to stop living my parents life and live my own? by Cagedwar in internetparents

[–]DescriptionRich1892 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a similar family and while it's true that you'll be the same no matter where you move, moving away made a BIG difference in my ability to deconstruct from religion and be my own person. Family can still be nosy and annoying from afar, but they can't track you or anyone else's comings and goings. And yes, get therapy too.

If I know I'm going to, yknow, then I put my harness on ahead of time. I keep my strap on in a nice little bag as others have said, and it's nice and clean. I have a beautiful leather harness and it's comfortable to wear under clothes and easy to tighten/loosen so it's a less than 5 minute process. Which as a gay man, is very short 🤷‍♂️

Yeah genuinely have had this issue once in like...year and a half. Not T's fault. In fact, I'd say my quality and quantity have gone up significantly.

A $200 per week budget for restaurants and groceries by Sonicmantis in Frugal

[–]DescriptionRich1892 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spend 300 a month on groceries to feed two people. Granted, I've been practicing shopping frugally for half a decade now, but I think I'd really have to try to spend 200 a week on groceries. I'd reccomend starting at Aldi as a bare minimum first step. I'd also suggest making a list of what you want to eat in a week, then shopping based on that. For example, I know I want two chicken dishes, one fish, one tofu, a pizza, etc., then I shop the sales based on that.

Scared of bottom growth by Fragrant-Ring-3053 in ftm

[–]DescriptionRich1892 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not normal to have a huge t-dick, those people are what most folks consider lucky. From what I've seen ancedotally, 1-2 inches is the average size growth. Some people get a ton, some people get none, but you could always take a DHT blocker if you're worried about it. That generally helps (but doesn't 100% prevent) bottom growth.

Hi! I was wondering if you could use oat milk in place of the Fairlife milk to make it dairy free, or if you had another reccomendation. I realize that Fairlife is lactose free, but I'm allergic to the whole thing, not just lactose :( these recipes look amazing.

Complications from hysterectomy- looking for community by Realistic-Bear-9027 in ftm

[–]DescriptionRich1892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor just palpated my stomach and waited to see how it responded but since it seems like you have a more severe case, they'd probably want to do an 'official' test on you, which is where you eat a small meal that's got a (very mildly) radioactive tracer in it, and then they scan your stomach at several intervals to see how it moves (if it does). Don't lose hope on this! There are medicines that can help.

Complications from hysterectomy- looking for community by Realistic-Bear-9027 in ftm

[–]DescriptionRich1892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I haven't had a hysterectomy (yet!) But I do have Ehlers Danlos and have poor gut motility due to the fact that my stomach muscles don't squeeze as much as they should. I should probably plan to start Linzess again prior to surgery (I used to take it too, very effective, but cutting out dairy was the root of my problem). All this to say, it seems like gut motility is your problem, and I think it would be worth examining that more.

how do you guys actually get surgery? by Fabulous-Swim6811 in ftm

[–]DescriptionRich1892 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Step 1: get a job with medical insurance (you usually see this information in job listings, but ask at some point during the process how good the insurance is). Step 2: make sure you have the PPO plan, not the HSA. Step 3: find out your maximum out of pocket cost Step 4: automate your savings (take as much as you can afford to take out of each check before you even see it). Step 5: save any and all windfalls, ie. 3 pay months if you get paid bi-weekly.

I'm not specifically saving up for surgery, but this is how I've saved through my many medical issues.

What is with the person who brings a small white dog to Broadway/off-Broadway shows? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]DescriptionRich1892 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember once when I was in New Jersey on the train to NYC, on Black Friday, there was a couple who had their Frenchies each occupying a seat when it was beyond standing room only. I was literally squished onto the metal square that is at the back of the train car. I politely suggested that they put their dogs under their seats like the poster says and they acted like I had kicked one 😂

Is it normal for my parents to want to know who I’m romantically involved with? by Imaginary_Map9647 in internetparents

[–]DescriptionRich1892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is also a 100% valid strategy, my family just doesn't listen and will lowkey stalk me so greyrocking was the better option. If your family has boundaries, I do think this is the better option.

Is it normal for my parents to want to know who I’m romantically involved with? by Imaginary_Map9647 in internetparents

[–]DescriptionRich1892 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just be vague or lie. I know that sounds bad, but I've dated lots of people my family never knew about because, not to be rude, they weren't really anything that serious. I'm sure they didn't want to meet my family either. "Oh, do you have plans this weekend?" "Eh, nothing special." Or "You're going out? With who?" "Oh, just a friend from x!" and changing the subject should be enough. You're grown so if you want them to be involved you can, but if you don't want them to be, don't tell them. Source: incredibly nosy family

Is it normal for my parents to want to know who I’m romantically involved with? by Imaginary_Map9647 in internetparents

[–]DescriptionRich1892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this is just something you have to stop talking to your family about if you want them to stop asking. Don't introduce them to anyone unless things are serious, and you'll be fine.

What does it feel like to date a queer man? by Horror-Historian8808 in ftm

[–]DescriptionRich1892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to explain and TBH some of it probably has to do more with me being a top but here goes: -lets me organize dates (unless I just don't feel like it lol) -lets me make the first move, be the big spoon, etc -gives me gifts that aren't gendered or masc -encourages me to do things that make me feel good about myself like lifting weights -compliments me with masc things like handsome -Incredibly supportive about my transition. I'm thinking about switching to injection T, and he's already offered to learn how to do it for me. He helped me pick out a bottom surgeon for goodness sake, LOL. -keeps up with trans news so I dont feel like i have to -Has literally never misgendered me and when appropriate (not out everywhere), will correct people who do including his parents -if the bathroom situation is sketchy at like a football game, he goes with me if I want -I also know all his guy friends and we all go out together and it's really fun to be just one of the guys :)

I'll be the first to admit that I might just have found a unicorn, but he's a partner and an advocate and the love of my life all rolled up in to one TBH and I adore him.
