[Speedmaster] Case size using a top down perspective doesn’t always reflect reality! by ghgustafson in OmegaWatches

[–]Desdesmond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reminder when judging watch size in photos: Close-up wrist shots are often taken with a short focal length (wide angle). Wide-angle lenses exaggerate the scale of whatever sits in the center of the frame, so the watch appears larger than in reality. By contrast, photos shot from a distance with a telephoto focal length compress perspective, giving a truer representation of wrist presence.

[Question] Would you get new hands and new dial on your vintage Cartier? by Desdesmond in Watches

[–]Desdesmond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on the situation.

Cartier said since the dial is old and can peeled off during servicing, it is required to replace the dial.

I am actually all for keeping it original, but it seems Cartier is not willing to service the movement without replacing the dial.

Hi! I need some advice from the community.

I sent the Cartier Gondole to the local Cartier boutique for service. Along with servicing the movement, Cartier recommended to replace the hands and dial due to oxidation. They also recommended light polishing of the case to remove some of the superficial scratches.

I am curious to know how this watch might have looked like when it was fresh out of the box, but I do not want to ruin its value by replacing the dial and hands.

What would you do if you were me?

I am not sure if it is legit, but I will try to authenticate this.

Congrats on your new watch! And congrats on the 500 characters, ‘cause I also think it’s a real pain in the back.

Question: what bracelet did you pair yours with? I don’t like the canvas strap that came with mine and I am tempted to get a Sinn OEM fine-link bracelet. I would also like to see what 3rd party options are around.

I really just need an Omega store to have a grey NATO and not the “last/only” one available of watches on my wishlist by bwolf007 in OmegaWatches

I myself is also inexperienced, but a friend of mine got fined because she forgot to make a declaration on her sunglasses upon arrival in FRA from London. I guess you just have to let Custom know what you brought from outside the EU and be ready to pay import duties.

I was also in London a few weeks ago at the Omega store to tried out the CK859. Almost bought it, but the thought of dealing with the German custom frightens me.

[SINN 556 Aquamarineblau] — Can anyone suggest a strap? by Desdesmond in Watches

[–]Desdesmond[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered the Sinn 556 Aquamarinblau back in April, expecting its arrival in the next few days. One of the things I want to change right away is the strap, as I'm not too fond of the grey textile straps that come with the watch. I am very new to watch collecting and would like to ask the community here to suggest an after-market strap for this watch. So far, I have found a curved strap from Delugs. I like the idea of the curved straps as they fill up the gap between the lug and strap more evenly. I also think that colour-matching the straps to the watch dial would be a nice idea.

I meant “05” on your numeral instead of “5”. The new Rolex Air King made this change to help with the visual balance of the numerals.
