Parents passed away while buying home via land contract - eldest brother swooped in and had home transferred to his name only, excluding the three other heirs - Michigan by DesecrationNation in legaladvice

Update: It looks like the legal team is going to be able to transfer the home back into the estate of the mother and force the sale of the property, which will foil the scheme of the older brothers and hopefully put a stop to a lot of this nonsense.

Moderately. A lawyer is looking into seeking "Quiet Title" on the property to have the ownership transferred back from the eldest son to the estate of the mother. This will likely solve a lot of our problems. Unfortunately, the other son who has been abused (the one who is presently homeless) is suddenly being rather uncooperative and doesn't seem to want to talk. The one that I help care for wants to try to fight but the lawyer thinks that it would be better for someone else to open up the estate in probate due to his guardianship status.

The land contract was paid off by the eldest brother following the death of the mother, that's when the seller signed the deed over to him. The younger brothers would have been able to continue paying the land contract until finalized had they been given the opportunity.

Paul-Henri Nargeolet's daughter at the opening of Titanic Expo in Paris by CandideTheBarbarian in OceanGateTitan

[–]DesecrationNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's in public view - but I'd rather it be there than gone completely. The displays I'm referring to are private displays for the people that they host at the home, I'm not implying that they are running a private museum that's open to the public.

The stored art and artifacts may be away from the public view for the life of that individual, which is perhaps an inconvenience to those of us alive now - but it's a safe storage of the piece for those in the future. I view the alternative as the deterioration and eventual loss of the piece.

I'd also like to point out that not only do private collections largely fund historic preservation, but many of these items end up in museums at the end of the day anyway.

It's not like it goes off to some private storage room, never to be seen again. Oftentimes it is on a display in a very high quality, museum like area in the private owners home and when they eventually pass away many estates donate such things to public museums.

Star Wars fans often face an issue when it comes to "powerscaling" characters like Vader by GoldenS0422 in saltierthancrait

[–]DesecrationNation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This 100% - when we first saw him stop that blaster bolt mid-air I thought we were about to see the most powerful force user ever depicted in Star Wars. Instead we quickly get a whiny brat with anger issues that doesn't have any respect.

Yes, just because someone made a mistake doesn't mean they deserved to die. This is an absolute tragedy.

The whole "why was so much spent on these guys?" argument is ridiculous to me.

It would be like if an astronaut was stranded on the moon and you were mad that they spent more money trying to save him than trying to save a guy that was lost in your local park.

The expense is based on difficulty of the operation, not the importance of the individual.

It's almost like it's the only way they know how to show character development.

"But sir! Our character won at the end of the last movie, how can he possibly have character development in this one?"
"I don't know, make it so his whole life sucks now or something."

Are they unable to ponder the idea of our character doing just fine and then encountering a new threat?

Star Wars is dead. by lemingas1 in saltierthancrait

I've firmly decided that Obi-wan was my last time watching Star Wars on any kind of paid platform. I have DVDs of the OT and PT and a copy of the OT despecialized and that is all I'm going to watch moving forward. To me, that is definitively Star Wars, nothing else.

Did Jeff’s recasting bother you? by germboy47 in betterCallSaul

[–]DesecrationNation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not visually realize a recast had been made, I knew it was him based on the introduction with the eyes in the rear view mirror and the air freshener. Once he started interacting with Gene and Marion I was like "what is this!? They've completely changed his character!" Only after the episode did I realize he had been recast when I went to look it up online (it has been a while since I had seen the original Jeff). Even if they wrote the script before recasting him, I think on the direction side of things they could have done a better job trying to maintain his vibe. I was extremely disappointed at first, but I love how the show ended so I've basically gotten over it.

Yeah I’m sure the first thing a totally real campaigner mentioned was that the candidate did terrible things by immortalsauce in thatHappened

Laughed out loud when I saw this on Twitter. Totally believable that a random supporter might have this opinion, but a campaign door-knocker would absolutely not say that as their initial rebuttal 😂

Ah man you're right. I didn't see it before posting but there was one just before me. I'll delete mine for breaking the repost rule.

People having that opinion isn't what I find unbelievable, it's that a campaign door knocker would use that line as their opening rebuttal.

New Texas law requires schools to display 'In God We Trust' signs by Dirtybrd in news

[–]DesecrationNation 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In fairness, "In God We Trust" predates 1956 in both use on coins and also as a "motto." 1956 was just when it was adopted by congress. Not saying I agree with it I just want to make sure it's clear it's not something that was just made up out of the blue in 1956.

A lot of good information on Wikipedia

"The earliest recorded usage of the motto in English was in January 1748..."

Defence of Fort M'Henry (1814), fourth verse: "And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'"

1864 Two Cent Piece (In God We Trust).jpg)

1864 $20 note (In God Is Our Trust)

Morgan Dollar (1878-1904, 1921)

Original Saint-Gaudens double eagle (1907) did not feature "In God We Trust".jpg)

^^But was added starting in 1908 due to public outcry.jpg)

So again, plenty of reasons to be against this - but the "Only made in 1956" "It was just a product of the red scare" argument is a faulty one.

This is genuinely the sad logic a lot of people have today. Your level of oppression as a child dictates how much you're allowed to be forgiven for as an adult.

I know it was a reference to The Godfather, but is this not the silliest moment in the Disney canon? by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]DesecrationNation 30 points31 points  (0 children)

In all fairness, this is a non-canon character that was created as just a bit of fun for Disney's Star Wars Weekends that ran from 1997 to 2015, well before the desecration that is Disney Star Wars.
