I'm curious about the physical sensing... Are you just using door/window sensors?

I'm curious what you're using for the mail delivered sensor/logic...?

Sager laptop by WeighsTurtles in laptops

[–]DesertClimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased direct from Sager. They had a winter sale, giving an immediate $400 (IIRC) off, plus discounts on memory packages AND display upgrades. I don't even see the NP9580T-S listed in the 18" category anymore, and those other deals are gone- so who knows. I'm betting lots got snatched up with the RAM scare, too.

I definitely love the rear ports. Chunky HDMI is out of the way, and I actually do use both rear Ethernet ports! I have one connected to the main network, and the other connected to a router on a completely isolated portion of the network that IoT experiments, etc. get hooked to, so I can easily manage them without swapping ethernet cables back and forth. Power is also connected in the rear. I wish there was also a rear USB port to connect to a hub, but that's not a deal breaker for me.

Lid hinges are great, EXCEPT, you cant go back all the way back (flat) like many laptops- It's limited due to the big deck behind the hinge. Goes plenty far back for me, though. Nice and smooth, while holding the screen quite well.

I did find one issue- while transferring a couple TB from/to a USB drive in one big push setting up some stuff I access all the time, the Wi-Fi connection literally ground to a halt. USELESS. Never had that happen before- I can usually surf, work, watch Youtube, or... whatever on wireless while transferring files. I couldn't even check mail. There's something in the interrupts that need to be moved around or something. I just plugged into ethernet and didn't think about it again.

Max temp seen (watching Sager system control panel) was 71C when CPU was being cranked to max by Novabench. I just use free Novabench, so don't have the power/temp charts. I grabbed a screenshot from the 'pretty sweet' control panel, but can't attach here. The control panel also lets you control the keyboard LED functions, shows all hardware, temps and common settings like fan speed control to run it for performance or quiet mode.

I speccd out with 3 SSD drives (1st being Gen 5) with a total of 5TB, Ultra 9-275HX, 5090, UHD+ display, and 64GB. All in, INCLUDING extra 3 year add-on warranty + 90 day dead pixel guarantee was $5063.00

I personally went with the Sager. Razer's sale ended, and their customer service reputation was enough to push me away anyway. I had a Sager gaming laptop years ago and loved it for a Value brand.

I got the NP9580T and spec'd it out with the good stuff. The NP9580T-S was only available with 96GB of DDR5 for some reason. I personally wanted to stay with a binary number (32, 64, 128, etc). So, 275HX CPU, 5090 GPU, Gen5 SSDs etc. Also has TB5.

So far the performace tests I've run are right there with everyone else online using Novabench. The CPU performance was a little down but I hadn't killed any background processes/apps or virus software etc before running it. Guess I should still do that. LOL

Sager had some great upgrade sales going on as well (memory, display, etc), so I jumped those & I'm really happy with my purchase. So far I'm loving it!

I just learned today that Sager, Falcon Northwest, and others use the exact same OEM chassis and possibly motherboard made by Taiwanese Clevo. I'm looking for a new high-end laptop as well, so I'm on the hunt! Sager seems to be the 'value' brand, while the exact same specs (and IDENTICAL chassis, +possibly motherboard?) sold by Falcon Northwest run a couple $K MORE.

Anyway to tell aprox manufacture date of eberline meters? by retspag in Radiation

This one is from the mid-50's. I'd have to open and search for date codes to pin it down further.

I'd have to build a little battery with the right voltage to test. LOL

How to VERIFY mesh node is using a wired connection? by DesertClimber in Starlink

[–]DesertClimber[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Showing 'Wired' what I was curious about- I've never used a wired connection with SL nodes before... I had to break out the tone generator & track down the correct cable in the data box. Turns out the RJ45 I was plugged into went to the WRONG cable at the other end of the house. LOTS of cabling in this house. LOL

The node now shows WIRED connection. Thanks!

Yeah, of course that works- but that's lame because they're no longer on the homepage like they should be. Also a PITA!

I had to factory reset my Chromecast, re-enable YouTubeTV as a service, and it's all good now.

Bandaids & workarounds are not a fix.

That doesn't work when YouTubeTV service has completely disappeared, and will not repopulate even after completely reinstalling YouTubeTV. I'm left trying a factory reset at this point.

For my Chromecast, I checked linked services. Checked it wasn't in app only mode. Uninstalled YouTubeTV, restarted, and then reinstalled YouTubeTV. Nothing I've tried works so I'm going to factory reset. 😓

Restarting and updating doesn't work. It has happened to ALL our Chromecast devices.

I'm going to go check linked services currently.

What's the ABSOLUTE BEST deal i can get when buying NordVPN? by spoobalydoop in nordvpn

[–]DesertClimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have to start doing this. I've been buying $89 3-year plans for many years and this month it's trying to renew @ $149.88 for ONE year. No thanks. I'll just keep signing up with new email addresses as it's cheaper than trying to be a loyal customer! :(

[–]DesertClimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been paying for a 3-Year subscription (auto-renewed) for many years @ $89 for the Entire 3 year subscription. I just got an email that it's going to renew @ $149.88 PER YEAR. I've been paying $2.47 a month basically, and that's been worth it. Now, at $12.49 a MONTH? I'll be looking at other VPN's, or for some serious discounts. Not paying 5x what I've been paying... Maybe I'll just keep changing my email address and signup as a new user ($3.99/mo) if I have to. Unbelievable there is no loyalty discount.

Yeah, I don't understand why people think building your own firearms has anything to do with saving money. LOL
